Mirage 2000H, MiG-29UPG, Jaguar DARIN III - Medium Multirole Aircraft of IAF

Hopefully with lack of spares, we retire Jaguars faster and replace it with Mk1A / Mk2.

Can't see collecting the retired pieces all over the world..

I am currently not aware about the latest plan. But what I knew was that the 3 non darin 3 squadrons will be retired along with 3 mig29 squadrons by 2030.

But seems plans have changed due to non delivery of tejas, non signing of rafale and no progress on su30 mlu.

Now the Mig29UPG will start going out from 2030. The Mirage 2000 from 2035 and the Darin III after 2035.

Mig-29UPG is likely to be upgraded again.

I read on Twitter about AESA radar on Naval MIG 29

Maybe UPGs of IAF , if all goes well

Both MIG 29 and Mirage 2000 need to be used as Long Range ASM platforms like for e.g. Rampage or some other weapons

Without AESA , they are not good enough even for CAPs

M2000's fine, but UPG and K need it.

They need to be able to carry the Scalp, Rampage, Spice series, jdam, NASM MR, Rudram 1-2, LORA and Astra MK2. And this can all be done. Both mirage 2000 and mig 29 are very capable platforms still.

The US would never allow us to integrate JDAM on MiG-29. Ukraine was an exception. Jags are a different matter since they have been fitted with US munitions like Harpoon and CBU-105 in the past.

We have our own TARA and SAAW plus the al-tariq and other Israeli munitions produced by Adani.
Just integrate them all in mig 29 and mirage.
Modern Air combat is nothing but being artillery/bomb trucks to lob off.

Buy for spares is different matter than procuring second hand and upgrading which we may take a decade and spend as much as a brand new jet.. making it failure method to raise squads.

The cost apart, our options for 2nd hand M2000s are dwindling quickly. Qatar is selling off its jets to Indonesia, Greece to Ukraine (likely) and UAE jets are not on the market anymore. Besides, they've been used heavily in ops against Iran so airframe useful life might not be much.

French AF birds will likely also end up in Ukraine as they are retired. Either now or after the war.

The IAF is essentially in the same position as the 1990s where they were forced to buy grey market spares for MiG-21s after the fall of SU. Though HAL makes some M2000 spares locally, the situation will only get worse over time.

For Air to Ground attacks , we can integrate Anything as we have done with JAGUARS

My only worry is that , without AESA , a J 10 can get the First lock at 200 KM and then both these Old Guys will have to run for their lives

So their CAP utility is limited
They will rely heavily on Ground radars and AWACS To know the presence of enemy fighters at a longer distance from them

That is why we need Tejas MK 1A in good numbers soon

If you get the AESA on these aircrafts j-10 will be viable targets. You need Astra mk1 and 2 integration expedited.
Mig 29 and mirage needs to become irritants and if the scalp can be integrated you have a very potent strike platform that can be used to take down most structures China and Pak.
