More on this NMDR Radar

Although It's mentions are now removed from BEL site, before 2020 it used to be there

The uttam tender was the older tender. Since then uttam mk1a and uttam mk2 have both come out using the new improved architecture. Im Not usre if uttam mk1a was planned for GaN because the mk1 was only GaAs but the mk2 100% is.

The virupaksha is just a drastically upgraded version of the mk2 using the superior hardware base of the su30mki that has a lot of space and power.
The new DRDO photonic radar is also at like TRL 7 right now and thye plan to make that airborne as well. Dont know the exact timelines though and honestly for frontier tech like this I don't think they know either.

So Virupaksha is not based on the latest architecture?

Data Patterns Q1 Concall

Hawk radar
Sure. We’ve done the hardware for both the MiG as well as Su-30, but we need the software for them. Original concept was we get the software from somebody. It didn’t work out, the hardware we contain and develop is world-class. We are in discussion with DRDO to see whether we can collaborate with them for putting this together. We are also in discussion with the Russian counterparts on the OEMs to see whether both are going ahead. I can’t very clearly say which will happen when faster. We expect the next two to three months time should get some breakthrough in this. The software can be ported, and we go to flight trials after that. We’re also investing in next generation, the HAWK program, next generation radars, which will be what is production-oriented line.

MOD INKS ₹ 770 Cr CONTRACT TO PROCURE IMPROVED LOW LEVEL LIGHT WEIGHT RADARS FOR INDIAN ARMY

Posted On: 21 OCT 2026 3:30PM by PIB Delhi

The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with M/s Bharat Electronic Limited (BEL) to procure Improved Low Level Light Weight Radar (LLLR-I) at a cost of approximately ₹ 770 Cr in the presence of the Defence Secretary, Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi on October 21, 2026.

The LLLR(I) system has the capability of detecting and tracking fighter size targets and mini/ micro drones, it has additional capability of prioritizing aerial targets. This will enable the Army to successfully counter the threat of the Unmanned Aerial System (UAS).

Aligning with the Government’s vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, the procurement is a significant step towards indigenization of Air Defence platforms with a boost to India’s Defence manufacturing ecosystem, including Micro Small & Medium Enterprises and building a resilient, self-reliant and globally competitive Defence Industry.

Does it bother anyone that we keep on hearing so much about DRDO AESA in fighter jets but not one is airborne?
We have massive fleet of Mig 29, Su 30 MKI but not even ONE single of them have been upgraded? We have fleet of Tejas now but not even ONE single of them are having DRDO AESA radar?

This thread is running from 2018. This discussion goes back to early 2010s.

APY-016K is already flying in few KF-21 being rolled out since march.... APY-016K was designed and developed between 2016-2020. And it was integrated and tested from 2020-2025. First KF-21 having APY-016K was deployed in march 2026.

This is a useless rant, order for Uttam has already gone out, and it's a big one. It'll fly on the production when the aircraft becomes available, which is scheduled for next year
