Antonio Costa President of the European Council is of partial Indian descent thru his father Orlando da Costa a noted author in Portuguese who was born & raised in Goa , himself of part Goan descent who in turn was a cousin of Sergio Viera a freedom fighter in Mozambique & later a minister in the post colonial adminstration there & a prominent poet.

The world is indeed a small place & well connected. Mozambique along with many African & Asian countries derived a lot of inspiration from India's freedom struggle & independence especially India's liberation of Goa which lit a spark under Salazar's regime in Portugal unleashing a wave of freedom struggles in Portuguese colonies especially in Africa eventually culminating in their independence & the Carnation Revolution in Portugal by a band of radical army officers.

Happy Republic Day everyone! I've written a short reminder about the history of our Tiranga.
The Tiranga is the product of a long freedom struggle, not a single moment of creation. Early flags under British rule carried colonial symbols and failed to represent a shared Indian identity. The first major nationalist tricolour appeared in 1906 during the Swadeshi movement in Calcutta, featuring lotuses and the slogan “Vande Mataram.” In 1907, Madame Bhikaji Cama raised a version of the flag abroad, presenting it internationally as a symbol of India’s demand for independence. In the 1920s, Mahatma Gandhi and Pingali Venkayya refined the design into a secular tricolour with the spinning wheel, linking it to mass participation, unity, and self-reliance. The flag was repeatedly banned by British authorities, strengthening its role as a symbol of resistance. In 1931, the Congress adopted the tricolour as the Swaraj Flag. As independence neared, the spinning wheel was replaced by the Ashoka Chakra, and on July 22, 1947, the Constituent Assembly adopted the Tiranga as India’s national flag.

Today, the Tiranga stands as a lasting emblem of unity, sacrifice, and liberation 🇮🇳

An unpopular opinion. However, my honest take on motorcycle stunts in parade. These stunts just pay homage to that history of Indian army, thus are justified. Anyone interested should read the history of motorcycle contingency of IA and what role those guy played back in those days. It might not look cool to some but hey not everything has to be cool.
