Its a 1x16 Watt PESA array, 80s technology.
That 20km range is most likely for a target with large rcs in near ideal conditions.


And while military equipment are definitely overpriced, but the cost of military radars is not just about a early prototype with commercial grade components, but proprietary often classified tech, building it with military grade reliability, testing, certification and its associated infra cost, setting up production, long terms maintainence and support package , and plethora of others variables.

And now, they are working on active cancelation for incorporation into Indian aircraft. AMCA, TEDBF, Ghatak, and LCA Mk2, all 4 can be equipped with it.

And this bit is very, very important.
"As compared to passive cancellation of scattered power, active RCS reduction is more feasible and practical as it requires less power, and has got cost-effective advantages."

What it means is active cancelation is easier than shaping-based stealth. That's why Rafale went after this route.

So my fantasy is an actual program is many countries.

Basically dilly dally between HAL ADA LRDE re the Uttam LCA variant. HAL can not make unless config is frozen & given to them. LRDE proven core Uttam & now finalising the latter platform specific application. ADA I got no idea. CASDIC Ew suites have progressed, even the pod perhaps. We should see in next 2 years how much visible in use.

These mofos have screwed uttam radar as well it seems like israelis have paid them huge amount of money .

Both HAL & LRDE should get belt treatment.

Don't worry. The second batch will ONLY consist of Uttam MK1B, i.e., GaN based radar. That's now a confirmed "insider" plan. It'll be revealed later to not offend our Israeli friends, lol.

FermionIC Founder in the attached clip confirmed that their chips have passed the tests for the next gen Radar being made for Su30MKI (Likely Virupaksa)
Listen from 40 sec....
So, Virupaksa will now likely have an Indian made Chip from FermionIC. If this is true It can't get better the Radar is already ~2400TRM GaN on Sic with Swashplate & now Indian chips

Strengthening India’s indigenous defence capabilities under Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India, Ministry of Defence (MoD) has inked a major capital acquisition contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the procurement of two Mountain Radars, including associated equipment and required infrastructure for the Indian Air Force, at a cost of around Rs 1,950 crore. The contract, under Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) category, was signed in the presence of senior officials of MoD & BEL in New Delhi on March 31, 2026.

This Mountain Radar is indigenously designed and developed by Electronics & Radar Development Establishment of DRDO and will be manufactured by BEL. The installation and commissioning of these radars will boost the country’s air defence and strengthen national security. The procurement will also reduce the dependency on foreign equipment.

Thats something like $100 milion for a radar. At gulmarg, J&K and pfutsero, Nagaland.

This may very well could be a derivative of Arudhra MPR dialled for mountainous terrain. If it is so, then this mountain radar(mentioned above) works in the S-band like other MPR derivatives.

Imo, a fixed site installation is generally reserved for high power radar (500km+). This looks similar to BMD radar sites (Swordfish/LRTR) in Rajasthan et all.

Any idea about the status of the IAFs HPR prog which was won by L&T? Could this be a version of DRDO HPR?

In the background, that PAE figure at 37% is CRAZY stuff. I checked their website, some of their LNAs can get to 45%!

Yes, looks like HPR and as I said works in S-Band.

S-band patch antennas are used for 2-way data links on AAMs/SAMs.

Why would NSTL want that? Maybe for the torpedo on the SMART missile.

We should upgrade all of our 100 Mig-29s(UPG + K) with either this or Uttam or ideally both. This will enhance Mig-29s BVR performance against J-10CE and it would be able to employ Astra 2 to its full launch-envelope.
