I am blaming everyone. In my personal opinion, along our china border, wherever there is a scope of tank to tank battle, we can get a T72 sized vehicle.
The ideal program should have been replicate and build a modern T72 using V92 engine for more power, taking pt91s transmission, and doing work on the canon so it could fire more powerful apfds rounds.
The Zorawar is a canon mounted ifv. If providing cover fire against software targets was the goal, it's good enough. No need for more armour or anything.
But then again it's just me against all the intelligent and sensible people.

I too agree that weight constrained of 25 tonnes for a tank is not good
-> My ideal himalyan tank would be the plateform which can:
1) defeat Any ground vehical
2) can not be defeated by any non-tank ammunition fired by any ground vehical in a dual
-> Hence this is my desired requirement:
1) can easily sustain 30×173 mm APFSDS rounds from front at any angle and distance
2) sides: stanag level 5/6
3) crew less turret for crew safety
4) automatic target tracking and engagement with IFF system
5) automatic traget neutralisation using HMG and active protection system ( for drones and ATGM )
6) ATGM with top attack mode

So I was indeed correct, they want more armour. Explains the new panels on Zorawar at the recent L&T visit. With extra developmental work required, the timeline has been pushed back as developers will replace protective materials while keeping its weight below the required 25 tonnes.

The current protection of 4 on front is okay. But, Stanag level 2 on the sides is very bad. IA's wish is a bit justified here.
Don't think so for the sides, it should best touch lvl 4 (from what I have observed elsewhere). STANAG 4569 lvl 5/6 norms also demand a 60° arc protection so some of the sides in the front might get matching protection (but only from a frontal arc pov not head-on).
It's justified, yeah, but what were the generals smoking when they set unattainable requirements in the first place? Stuff like this reminds me that Parrikar's comment about the Army wanting Marvel comics weaponry was absolutely spot on.
