Iran and US agree deal to end war as Israel says its forces will stay in Lebanon

Israel should ask Hezbollah to withdraw from Lebanon as part of the ceasefire, since they're also an occupying force.

Yep, they're already breaking the ceasefire as predicted. Don't see any end to this until their entire economy is bombed into the ground.

Fer the love of God , Paddy are you genuinely this dumb ? Has the peace agreement between the US & Iran been signed ?

If not wouldn't this act of clearing the Straits of Hormuz be construed by Iran as lessening their leverage over the situation ?

I mean do these things ought to spelt out for you ? Haven't all those years spent on fora such as this inculcated even a modicum of intelligence in you as to how to analyse a situation ? How can someone of your age & experience be so dumb ?

Israelis denounce Trump’s deal with Iran

Israeli officials disparaged the peace deal and said Israel’s fight against Hezbollah in Lebanon would go on.
Among Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s supporters and critics alike, in the media and on social media, the mood was clear as Israelis woke up Monday to news of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran: President Donald Trump’s deal is not one that many in Israel like.

Watch the 'israel first' in the US cry
Yo Pops ! Since you're too young to be a hippy & too old to be woke , I'm venturing either your folks were the former or the fruit of your loins the latter.

Of course considering you're part of this forum , it could also be the unfortunate case of you being the offspring of hippies & the parent of woke children given this forum somehow has become a freak magnet .

Don't believe me ? Consider this - We've either Wumaos from China posting their propaganda or a new Chinese member ( assuming he's still in the mainland ) give our self loathing lot a complex. Believe me that's no mean achievement.

Retuning to the topic in question - aren't you aware part of the reason Israel was established was to function as an outpost for the west ( initially the Franco Brit alliance later inherited by the US acting in consort with their European counter parts ) in an especially volatile but strategically vital region which happens to be the ME ?

Irrespective the current outpouring of grief in campuses of the west & bleeding heart liberals like yourself which is a recent phenomenon ( & a function of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing by first allowing for an influx of a people radically opposed t everything the west stands for & then sitting on the fat of their collective back sides , watching the radical loony left seize control of the social sciences at the universities there ) , the establishment remains firmly in support of the continuation of Israel whatever its misgivings .

Which brings us to what's the actual goal of Israel here ? Doesn't take a genius to figure it out although it's definitely heavy lifting for you Paddy & sweetie ( wonder where's sweetie disappeared . Not seen sweetie around since long ) . The cat was let out of the bag during the Black September crisis or the Jordanian Civil War in 1970 .

The game was to push in Palestinians into neighbouring countries especially Lebanon & Jordan where they were expected to live their future lives after the Israelis emptied the entire West Bank of them , possibly Gaza too though I'm not sure of the latter.

This caused huge problems for the Lebanese which saw the influx of the Palestinians there ruin the fragile balance of power by increasing the population of the Muslims there exponentially & overnight which in turn led to a series of events culminating in the civil war there which technically hasn't yet ended although various chapters in the book have only to result in another chapter.

In Jordan the situation was no different. Palestinians then comprised a large chunk of the citizenry there plus an equally large number were refugees from 1947-48 with kin among the citizens there of Palestinian origin.

To add to their problems there was a sudden influx of refugees there following Israeli annexation of the WB during the 6 Day War in 1967 . Do remember Jordan under King Hussein ( the present King's father & predecessor ) relinquished all rights to the WB during the Oslo Accords or thereabouts thus paving the way for the establishment of the Palestinian state.

But we're jumping too far into the future. This sudden influx of a large amount of refugees alarmed the king & the native Jordanian population there who feared the worst. Right on cue the PLO operatives aka the Black September group there staged a coup .

Rumours suggest it had Israeli planning & backing but we've no firm evidence of it. Long story short the coup was brutally put down by the Jordanian Army with assistance from the Europeans & sympathetic Arab nations (also Paxtan which is weeping crocodile tears at the plight of Gaza today ) resulting in > 10,000 casualties mostly Palestinian civilians mostly caught in the crossfire.

Result - Yasser Arafat & the PLO were expelled from Jordan & their plans of establishing a Palestinian State in Jordan came crashing down. Lebanon in any case was too diverse for them to establish a foothold there & all ethnicities there had their armed forces which alternatively fought each other & United or split up as the situation demanded.

So why am I telling you this ? For the simple reason that since the Oslo Accords there has existed two strands of thought in Israel - the Rabin line of giving up on Eretz Israel or Greater Israel which was an article of faith with the establishment there never spoken of publicly.

In public all Israeli governments were amenable to the the various UN Resolutions asking for a 2 state solution - the very heart of the Oslo Accords or at any rate didn't oppose it in public.

However ever since the Oslo Accords came into existence there was a crack more like a chasm in the establishment on the 2 state solution. The Rabin line favoured giving up on the idea of Eretz Israel , go in for a 2 state solution & establish lasting peace.

That line of thought received a huge setback with the assassination of Rabin & intransigence by the PLO especially Arafat who feared if he compromised on the right of return question among others , he'd be denounced a traitor & likely killed , a proposal no Israeli would accept as it'd mean having Palestinians in their midst who'd outnumber the Jews there undoing the Jewish nation.

Same conundrum the Irish faced during the settlement following the Irish War of Independence wherein Michael Collins signed the peace accord which split Ireland granting independence to a significant part but left Northern Ireland under the UK .

With De Valera & other veteran leaders mostly opposing the deal , Collins was isolated igniting the Irish Civil War which culminated in the assassination of Collins & his associates.

Retuning to the Israeli Palestinian issue , eventually the Rabin line of thought was allowed to die a natural death . The second line of thought is what Natanyahu is a proponent of except he probably wants to exceed the original boundaries of what Eretz Israel stood for .

To understand the psyche of Netanyahu it helps to look into the views his father - Benzion Netanyahu : a historian & radical Zionist activist held . Incidentally , Netanyahu comes from a heritage of at least 3 generations who've been committed ( some say radical ) Zionists.

As of now it's this governing philosophy which is guiding Israeli action in the ME. The final plan is to resurrect the old plan of annexing the WB & Gaza pushing the 5 million Palestinians there into Jordan. It's not as if the establishment in the rest of the world especially the Arabs are unaware of it .

Will it succeed ? Perhaps. But at great cost to Israel. If you think this is morally reprehensible what are you doing occupying Abroginal Land in Australia Pops ? Walk the talk , sell it off & donate all its proceeds along with all your personal assets & savings to them & leave for the land of your ancestors wherever that is .

Besides if you think what's now Palestine was originally Arab lands you ought to read up more. It's part of one of the most neglected & successful colonizations in history - the Arab colonisation of the rest of Arabia , West Asia & North Africa. Not only did they change the ethnicity of those lands but also their religion & language.

Then one can surmise as one would have to for your better understanding , these issues are normally settled by the sword with talks merely serving to buy time or tide over an unfavorable situation.

Alhamdulillah !
