Ukraine - Russia Conflict

A breakthrough by two Ukrainian tanks occurred in the Kharkiv region. The video shows two Ukrainian tanks of an unidentified model belonging to the Ukrainian Army's 475th Assault Regiment. The tanks advanced a couple of kilometers into the Russian-controlled zone near Olkhovatka, in the Kupyansk district of the Kharkiv region. After firing upon Russian units, the tanks withdrew to their starting positions. Thanks to "cagelike" armor protection (often referred to as "mangals") installed on the tanks, FPV drones were unable to hit them. Olkhovatka has since been lost by the Ukrainian army.

Footage shows Russian interceptor drones in action over Crimea, specifically engaging and destroying Ukrainian drones in the skies above Sevastopol. The specific type of interceptor drone has not been disclosed. It is worth noting that not all incoming drones are successfully shot down, as they can arrive in the hundreds.

Currently being used extensively by Ukr AD units along with IRIST to tackle the new series of LMs that are being used by the Russian Forces along the contact line as well as for deep strikes.

The SA-8 Gecko, known in Russian as the 9K33 Osa, is a short-range tactical air defense system designed to engage aircraft, helicopters, drones, and missiles. Developed in the 1960s by the Soviet Union, the system entered service in 1971 and remains operational in various upgraded forms. Its mobility and integrated radar and missile launcher system enable rapid deployment and engagement, making it a formidable asset for protecting maneuver units in combat.

Putin claimed Russian frontline gains in September 2026 so far from reality as to resemble hallucinations. Putin claimed that Russian forces seized 1,301 square kilometers of territory in Ukraine in September 2026 alone — 2.5 times more than the claimed Russian gains in previous months. ISW has observed evidence to assess that Russian forces suffered a net loss of 80.81 square kilometers in September 2026.
Russian forces suffered a net loss of 175.18 square kilometers in September 2026 even when accounting for Russian infiltrations into areas over which Russian forces have not gained control. Putin’s absurd claims continue to present a fictional battlefield reality that supports the Kremlin’s cognitive warfare effort to falsely portray Russian advances as sweeping across the battlefield.
ISW cannot assess whether Putin knows that the figures he is presenting are false or if he is accepting fictional frontline data presented to him as the result of the culture of lying that is deeply ingrained in the Russian military command structure.
