Small Turbojet Engine Developments in India for UCAV & Missile Applications

Seems like AI slop

Most of that doesn't make any sense, all the images show things that would never fly...

Their engines and stuff were nice to see, why are they doing this? They have no way to make or import a seeker, which is the most important part of this.

Actual UAV or mini-missiles are not like this...

Saurav Jha did an interview with NDTV's Vishnu Som & Shiv Aroor few months back. There, Saurav talks extensively about this missile, the need for it, the advantage of it. Please watch that.

I guess they are in partnership with BEL or something.

5kn if its is at sea level then i guess it's enough for 300 kg supersonic missile(without booster), may be a A2A missiel can happen?

And obviously by addaing a booster to propell at 3 mach, a much large missile can be made.

I have watched most the videos of Saurav Jha from at least past 4 years. His older videos and currently work on RDE is great.

I guess you are talking about this interview?

He had talked about a flight test vehicle that would be used to verify the performance of his engine.

What has happened is that someone has taken the design of said flight test vehicle and added marketing to it. It is impossible that this flight testing vehicle will become any missile.

d-propulse is genuinely interested in making a Brahmos class cruise missile. Their argument is that the Brahmos is great but expensive. The price hinders our ability to have a large magazine depth for such a cruise missile. Look at 7:30 min on that video.

Successful development of first indigenous Expendable Turbo Jet Engine of 350 kg thrust class

प्रविष्टि तिथि: 23 JUL 2026 8:19PM by PIB Delhi

The first indigenous Expendable Turbo Jet Engine of 350 kg thrust class, designed by DRDO’s Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), has been successfully developed. GTRE had identified Azad Engineering, Hyderabad as Industry partner for the manufacturing and assembly of the engine. On July 22, 2026, the engine was successfully realised and delivered to GTRE by Azad Engineering, a landmark achievement for India's aerospace and defence ecosystem. The delivery marks the culmination of years of precision engineering, advanced manufacturing, and close partnership between India's scientific & industrial communities.

Mastered by only a handful of nations, jet engine technology is widely regarded as one of the most sophisticated engineering disciplines in the world, demanding exceptional precision, advanced metallurgy, and uncompromising manufacturing standards. Delivery of such complex system based on the design of DRDO reflects the growing technological capabilities of the Indian Defence Industry.

The engine was handed over to Distinguished Scientist & Director General (Aeronautical Systems) Dr K Rajalakshmi Menon and Outstanding Scientist and Director GTRE Dr SV Ramanamurty by CEO Azad Engineering Shri Rakesh Chopdar.

Defence Secretary and Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh complimented the partnership of GTRE and industry that has been instrumental in transforming the vision into a historic milestone.
Can somebody please tell me how this engine is different than PTAE engine for the lakshya drone?

Both are turbojets with similar thrusts

This new engine is built for one time use. Made using cheaper alloys, designed for mass manufacturing & keeping cost down. The PTAE engine is built for reuse; the Lakshya target drones are recoverable.

Ok, but then this is not such a big achievement right ? Lakshya drone has been around for 20 years. It seems an incremental improvement on it. Wonder why it was given such big media coverage.
