First flight of AMCA in 2025 : DRDO Chief – Indian Defence Research Wing

After reading the article heading..

First reaction..

Had a good laugh...

Alright FOC mk1 in 2 months time..

Mk1A probably in 3 years time..

MWF design completed but first flight 20xx ..

AMCA suddenly pops up.. 2025 ?

Second reaction...

Searched for AMCA thread..

It seems DRDO wants AMCA to incorporate sixth gen techs like controlling of drone swarms. Direct energy weapons. Advance communication link with all the land air sea and space platforms with real time data transfer for greater situational awareness. That is why I think it is appropriate to put AMCA in Tempest and FCAS category.

@randomradio how come you keep saying MTOW will touch 30 ton ?

Hi,
As far as I can understand the specifications of AMCA will be similar or maybe better than chinese FC31.
They are competing with them because as we all know who else gonna use that fighter if it comes into production.
This is the reason MTOW is being increased as first it was conceptualised as 16-18T then 20T and now 25T.
Thus I predict it to be 27-28T when it rolls out.
Regards.

Just 4 weapons in stealth config is not enough. AMCA will be an outdated machine that can carry less when it comes out while most developed and developing countries will be flying 6th gen and working on 7th.

Tejas saga will be repeated again. AF will not be happy with its performance and payload it seems, and ask for an AMCA MK 2 which will be a 5++ gen aircraft.

Yusuf basically says we should cancel all fighter projects, especially MWF and MMRCA, and wait for AMCA, simply because China is getting 2 5th gen aircraft by 2025.

Think he said MWF only.. And concentrate on AMCA.

Since MWF induction will begin around 2030 and used until 2070.

And manpower will be stretched across 3 projects MK1A, MWF and AMCA.

Interesting ly Harsha vardhan Thakur was positive on possibility of making twin engine LCA for Navy in short time.

MMRCA also. He has a wrong impression of why we need all these jets before PAK FA, AMCA etc.

Same manpower will build Mk1A and MWF, one after the other.

AMCA will see a private contractor as the lead integrator and will be built in Coimbatore, chosen via tender. And HAL has to compete for the project, they won't simply be given the project. Would like to see Tata or L&T winning this one.

It's too late for that. Any such plan should have started 5 years ago, with the prototype entering construction in the next 2 years. N-AMCA is the better bet.

Rather N-MWF is completing the design phase soon.

Actually if you pay attention to what they are stating is that it will be a 5++ fighter as it will have some sixth gen features too.

But we have limited funds as our defence budget isn’t that big.
We should develop MWF prototypes.
But invest fully in AMCA as they will be the decisive edge over China.
They have the no. but no quality.

MWF development is already funded.

Exactly it’s the procurement of the MWF jet we should refrain from.
Develop the technology demonstrator.
But don’t go for production.
Wait and develop AMCA put up an order of 100-200 fighters.(5th gen won’t be cheap)
After it procure as many MWF fighters as you can with the leftover funds.
Tejas Mk1a is costing us $73million per jet.
MWF will be in the vicinity of $100million(my estimate).
Budget is limited. Think!!!

So you're saying IAF should import Gripen instead? Because the IAF isn't gonna wait for something that's 15 years away, they need something that's 5 years away. It's MWF or Gripen E. At 24/year, 6 squadrons of MWF will be delivered between 2028 and 2032. AMCA will be delivered only after 2035, not considering delays.

Long ago I stated IAF needs 200+ twin engine MMRCA and 200+ single engine MMRCA, and that we need deliveries from 3 production lines, ie, 3 different aircraft, to be simultaneously delivered in order to make up for squadron drawdown. And this requirement has not changed. So the choice is between MWF and Gripen E, AMCA isn't even in competition here.

GoI has to make the budget work.
