ISTAR is mostly software. They are trying to extract maximum from the deal. Thus the delay.
I also have some doubt regarding the platforms. They might go for Bombardier aircrafts, again a new aircraft getting into IAF.

Can't this system be optimised to use on C-295? Can't C-295 act as the platform for Netra MK-1A?

If they are trying for Raytheon Sentinel then why develop main underbelly radar? Looks like there is alot of miscommunication in the desi defence enthusiast's community.

We are buying 1 Sentinel flyaway, the remaining 3 will be based on US tech. But if that falls apart, we will do it alone using indigenous tech.

Need jet engine with high altitude capabilities. Props are only good for 10Km and below.

They say IAF operates 2 Netra Mk-1 but all three aircrafts have got the tail number and IAF colours. So, aren't all 3 in service?
 
What will be the difference between mk1 &mk1a aews?
Nothing is out as of now.

With the news of 6 more Netra MK-1 under pipeline we can surely expect the Mk-3 or the 360° one to be a post 2035 project but by then we will be having 9 Netra Mk-1 + 3 Phalcon + 6 Netra Mk-2 for a total of 18 awacs.
