Yesterday i was talking to @Arvind sahib. Told him i had taken the morning off because i thought it could be a classic last day. Wasted my morning watching guys perhaps strained and tired of counting the money they earned from the IPL last year.
No fight and my 3 year old could judge a run better than Pujara. They simply didn't look interested.
The structure and dedication isn't desirable for test cricket. Something needs to change.
From a players perspective why would you not show all your focus on a 6 week period where you can earn in excess of a million dollars? There i believe is an issue that needs looking at.

Kohli acts like a pakka schmuck. Product of the times we live in I guess. The way he defended dropping practice match was so shameless.
Well , a precedent has been set . If MSD could be retained as Captain in spite of back to back losses ( not just losses but clean sweeps , against England & Australia in 2011-12) without losing his captaincy , Kohli can't possibly do worse than him . In his defense , it can be argued that at least MSD won the ODI Work Cup in 2011 . I wonder come next year same time what would Kohli's state of mind be coz the World Cup is to be held next summer , after back to back series against England & Australia.
There's a huge systemic issue here which if the current administration doesn't / can't set right , nobody can / will . This is as close to a professional set up we're ever going to get in BCCI without the fear of vested interests dictating terms here .All by pure default.
If they don't handle the elephant in the room - the IPL and it's repercussions on the future of Indian cricket ( especially test cricket ) well , we'd be witnessing the gradual demise of test cricket standards in India .
Somehow , I'm not too optimistic about the future . Its like the Pakistani poet Faiz who after one of his many tangles and incarcerations by the Pakistani government, was asked by a young admirer on one such release from incarceration on the future of the Pakistani state , replied in a resigned tone - Barkhurdar , kuch Nahin Hoga , bas Yun hi chalegaa.

The ODI and T 20 series with Sri lanka should have been cancelled
and they should have had a Two week camp on Green Pitches
But the Board ie BCCI is greedy

Throw him straight in. No substitute for raw pace. He will get faster as his body gets bigger and learning in the test environment will enhance his ability
So Kohli had to bring in Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Rahane for thr last match due to the criticism he recd.

India won the first ODI quite comfortably in the end.
Kohlis century was perfect.
Rahanes 86 ball 79 proved yet again he is not ready for one day cricket. He averages abt 55 since the beginning of 2017 in ODIs. But he does not have tattoos.

This is rahanes 5th consecutive 50. Only a few months ago he was man of the series in west indies. He was dropped in the following series. So looks like he is in trouble again.
Truly we live in trumps era. Shastri said this today - rohit averaged over 200 in tests in 2017, so how could we tell him that his runs didnt matter?
1) rohit played 2 tests at home against his whipping boys SL where he scored 217 total runs. His average was becausr he got out only once.
2) the same kind hearted shastri, in the last 6 months had no problems dropping rahane twice - once after becoming man of the series in west indies, second after he scored 4 consecutive half centuries against australia. Looks like shastris kind heart is not for the players but for the ambanis. Ahole.

We live in an era where the tattoos, the pretty girl, the glam, the attitude and the looks matter as appossed to talent. I don’t know about Indian “cricket politics “ selection may also be effected by who you know and where you’re from.
I know it can be so frustrating - knowing the selectors and coach are biased and doing a crap job Bro. Rahane ought to just keep his head down and keep performing. ?
It is not about Rohit or Rahane or Shastri
As long as team India wins ; every body except Kohli is dispensable
Now a days even Ravindra Jadeja is not finding a place after the arrival of Chahal and Kuldeep
It is only because India failed in two tests that Rahane got the chance in third test
We had a good chance in the First test ; had that happened nobody would have blamed Rohit
manish Pandey ; Raina ; Yuvraj ; all have been in and out at some point
The talent pool has increased in recent years and the competititon is cut throat

Please, they were infact backed fully by dhoni even in terrible form, which they often were in, given their technical limitations. Heck even rohit sharma, in 2012, scored all of 171 runs in 14 odis at average of 13 was not dropped.
Btw you are right it is NOT about rahane, it is about bad team selection to pander to corporate interests for which the team pays a price.

Rahane is not a TV face, Rohit is backed by largest IPL franchise and promoters. Its just that Rohit do not want to open or else KL Rahul/Murli/Dhawan would have lost to him.
Rahane is a gentleman just like Dravid. He will finally succeed, though tough will be his ride.
If Indian Team stops performing ; it is only then that Selection issues come to the fore
Till then nobody can complain
So Rahane is the flavour of the Month because we need a Quality batsman at the fourth

But No player can really say that his place is secure
It is a Revolving door
There is too much cricket these days
Players will have injury issues and also Bad Form will catch up at some point
So every body gets a chance at some point
