Congratulations our protests finally led to change in law and now now child rapists can be awarded death sentences. Feels satisfying.

Now let's step back and see what can be the consequences of our emotionally charged protests that left no room for the govt but to submit to popular opinion.

1) Encourage murder after rape: Since the rapist is already going to get death sentence after rape he will be more inclined to murder.

2) Disappearance after rape: The rapist may opt to kill and hide and body after rape. Without body neither rape nor murder can be proved and he can walk free, why not take that chance, afterall the child is physically incapable to resist such attempt.

Today the difference in sentencing between death and rape works as a deterrent not to murder which may not be the case anymore. The families of those innocents will never know where did their child go, what happened to her, they will never get a closure and suffer lifetime.

I won't even go into the debate of revenge, justice, correction as we are not ready for it but these consequences can be unintended outcome of our doing.

No law can save us from us, the problem is not law but the animal inside us that needs to be addressed. Many people I see updating the status with sad smilies demanding justice for Asifa are the one that readily pass lewd comments on womens whenever they get chance.

I don't know how big a deterrent this death sentence will prove to be and I hope it prevents as many rapes as possible but when it happen it's entirely possible that we see savagery that will put animals to shame.

This is known as crisis management not crisis prevention.

When your educationists and teachers are ill qualified to prepare a curriculum where a primary school kid learns the basic ethics and civilization. The problem starts either at home or school. And this molds a human into a criminal of any sort.

The only way of preventing and minimizing a crime is teaching the young kids about life and discipline. But in India it is not possible.

Welcome to the Kalyug, looks like the golden period is ending before time.

You can argue this one either way but ultimately keeping people in prison costs money.

Prevention can prevent the loss , Management can prevent the injustice. Both should be in balance.

I think it depends not on government but whole society. This is how we wanted to happen and develop. India is a market and it will not be an easy task to revive whatever you suggest.

Easy to say, doesn't work in real life, when you are schooled in Macaulay system.

It is easy task, Remove RTE and recognize Gurukul style education, all your problems will be solved.
You are trying to ape Macaulay education, so you also ape their defects unknowingly.
