US Blocks $3-Billion Drone Sale to India Until ‘Meaningful Investigation’ of Pannun Assassination Conspiracy

A Washington-based source says that Indian-American lawmakers in particular are deeply concerned about the fallout from the indictment of an Indian in the plot.

Not surprised. All defense deals with the US should be put on hold until their elections are over.

This move is not only to punish India for our support of Russia, which was always expected, but it's also to place roadblocks in our aerospace development. It was a pretty stupid decision to so heavily rely on the US for almost our entire aerospace program. Even if our indigenous fighter jet programs are compromised, thankfully MRFA, MKI MLU and IUSAV rely on non-American tech.

I see it is as a positive sign. Now we know very clearly where to go shopping for Tech and hardware and it is just half the distance compared to USA. Its France.

What ll happen to additional GE 404 orders planned for 97 Mk1A?

What ll happen to GE 414 INS6 ToT deal?

Will they get imapcted too?

Reapers delay can be tolerated, but figter engine s are critical

Thanks to goi's stupidity during Ukraine war. People should understand what p8 & ptedstor brought to india. Even we used p8 along LAC during critical times of 2020 standoffs.

Definitely.

It's incredibly ironic, ADA helped crush the Indo-French K10, 'cause they wanted the F404 and F414 instead of Kaveri. Now quite literally all their programs can be held hostage by the Americans.

We need at least 25 F414s, and we only have 8 meant for LCA Mk2. Luckily AMCA and TEDBF are still early in their timetable, so a switch to EJ2x0 (10T or 12T) or the new M88 engine (11T) for SCAF can take care of it, whoever we sign the AMCA engine deal with. And we need the AMCA engine going ASAP.

Good to see all the pro-American pundits with egg on their face.

Both engines can be blocked. Only the first 83 can get through, assuming the Americans don't sanction them.

We need to worry about NGD and Vikrant 2 as well, both are expected to use LM2500.

If this is Biden's plan, then we will have to wait until Trump takes over next year.

Good, atleas IAF to cap the induction of mediocre fighter to mere 83 in numbers. So more Rafales are coming. @Picdelamirand-oil

Yeas, we should have opt EJ engine for MK2, instead ADA choose an easy path.

Again, its a godd news. We can easily opt for highly advanced RR engine.

A very confidence inspiring move for Indian defense planners I'm sure. Rejecting any attempt at indigenization and suffocating R&D with poor funding will pay off eventually, right?

If this is true I wonder if this will change the calculus for the IAF, all their upcoming fighter fleets on American engines. At least the Navy didn't go all in on the LM2500 and have some variety to fall back on if push comes to shove.

We have answer to LM2500 as Bharat Forge recently took over the Ukrainian gas turbine maker which has largest number of gas turbine engines in service with IN. I stiil want GOI to ask SAFRAN to fix Kaveri. It is the best solution as of now. The day we get this engine going, you will see Americans moving all their stuff to India. USA has been able to arm twist India these engines only due to the large number of orders these engines got from Korea for F/A-50, their latest stealth fighter and the impending ramp up of T-7 trainer in USA.

It was only the Indian arm of the company to help support whatever India operates. Basically the Indian MRO. We don't have any access to the main company in Ukraine.

I believe SAFRAN is working on the dry thrust Kaveri. But yeah, I'm hoping the new navy deal will come with that.

We lost that chance though. Had the K10 deal gone through, we wouldn't have had a need for either American engine.

Anyway, it's an Ajai Shukla article, so fake news. The USG is yet to notify Congress about the drone sale.

Okay, it turns out the entire deal is still very early in the process. It's only an initial approval, post which there will be negotiations and then Letter of Offer and Acceptance. The approval bit has to go through Congress, and they have 30 days after intimation to block the deal if they want to.

After notification, assuming it happens in 24 hours (as written in that article), there will be 30 days for Congress to block by passing some law. Wire lied because act of congress can not remain hidden and happens only after it is notified. Another Tek Fog moment for The Wire?
