Today, the Congress President Rahul Gandhi tweeted how he remembered Subhash Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary. But the country needs to be reminded as to how the Congress party shunted out Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose unceremoniously in 1939.

Congress Session at Tripuri 1939 – Subhash Chandra Bose is re-elected President

Subhash Chandra Bose and Jawaharlal Nehru were staunch leftists within the Congress party of the day. They advocated complete freedom from British unlike those who hoped for constitutional concessions from British. The declaration of Purna Swaraj was taken under president-ship of Nehru in Lahore session of Congress (1929).

Bose had been elected as the president in Haripura session of Congress in 1938. Bose had been advocating opposition to British government’s federal scheme as per Government of India Act 1935. He had been proposing a mass movement for ‘Purna Swaraj’, unlike other elements within the party which were in favor of accepting the new concessions from the British. However, the old guard, including Mahatma Gandhi, refused to heed to his words. Therefore he contested for re-election to the presidency of the next annual Congress session that was to be held in Tripuri.

Unlike today’s Congress party, there were real elections to the post of president during that time. He won against Gandhi’s candidate Pattabhi Sitarammayya (1,575 to 1,376 votes). In response, the entire CWC (Congress working committee) resigned. He wrote about the events in November 1939 :

Towards the end of 1939 election of the Congress president for the year took place. The decision to offer myself for the position was an act of dare devilry, majority of the Congressmen being of the view that the chances of success were remote. My justification for standing was that by doing so I would strengthen the anti-federation, cause no matter what the result of the contest might be. There is no doubt that the result brought disappointment to the rightists, sent a thrill of joy and self-confidence to all leftists in the country. ‘Federation is now dead as a doornail’- was the universal comment on my re-election. ‘The work of twenty year has been undone’ -was the remark at Wardha.
But Gandhians were not to be discomfited so easily. Mahatma Gandhi was stirred to activity, proclaiming to the world (and quite wrongly in my own opinion) that Dr Pattabhi’s defeat was his own defeat. The party machinery set with full force and preparations were made for a battle royal at the annual session of the Congress which was to meet at Tripuri in March last. [..]
The question of Swaraj was receded to the background and the one thought and endeavour of Gandhiites was to avenge their defeat at presidential election, about which they were optimistic, having won over Jawaharlal Nehru in the meantime.
Subhash Bose’s exit from the Congress party

Thereafter, he was shunted out of the Congress party because he had the charisma and ability to win an election against the wishes of Mahatma Gandhi. The Congress party’s official website admits to the Bose’s ouster within the Congress party after the Tripuri session :

Netaji was a sick man at Tripuri, but even so, with amazing and almost prophetic foresight, he warned that an imperialist war would break out in Europe within six months. He demanded that the Congress should deliver a six – month ultimatum to Britain and in the event of its rejection a country-wide struggle for ‘Poorna Swaraj’ should be launched.
His warning and advice went unheeded, and what was worse, his powers as President were sought to be curtailed. He therefore resigned in April 1939, and announced in May 1939 the formation of the Forward Bloc within the Congress. In August, he was removed from the Presidency of the Bengal Provincial Congress Committee, and further debarred from holding any elective office in the Congress for a period of three years. In September 1939 war broke out in Europe, and Netaji’s prophecy at Tripuri came true almost to the very day.
This shows how the Congress party treated a popular leader like Netaji Subhash Bose because he had the ability to shine, unlike a compliant Nehru. Had he been allowed to lead Congress in Tripuri, he might have led India in the future. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The case of Subhash Chandra Bose, shows that no popular leader of capability is ever allowed to rise in its system.

Congress are experts at using and throwing people, then suddenly remembering and honoring them once it becomes popular/politically beneficial to do so.

They've always done that with Gandhi, they did it with Sardar Patel, and now they're doing it with Bose too.

Mahatma Gandhi maybe thought that he is bigger than the INC and his idea is more greater than his compatriots? Gandhi should have left the affairs of INC to itself or should have led the party himself which he didnt want.

There are faults with every other man. And its true no other man inspires an Indian as much as Nethaji did.

Even during the Freedom struggle, CONgress was a party which had 80% sychopants and opportunists and 20% dedicated fighters.

This could be a reflection of India society of that time.

This make inspirational leadership all the more relevant and magnificent. Be it Nehru, Gandhi or Subash.

But Netaji was far too focused and narrow minded on the ultimate goal of independence, that he lost track of the real goal of the fight, which was to establish a better society and polity fused with values, not just courage.

Nothing destroys human values faster than any war. Its as simple as that. So let us blame the CONgress and hero worship Netaji, but let us never forget to be glad that he died before he could win us a violent war.

Gandhi had become face of Congress like NaMo has become of BJP
If Gandhi had left Congress then many people would have left with him
Anna Hazare (Gandhi) tried to use the same style but with Kejri (Nehru) unfortunately both had ulterior motives.
Gandhi was childish in many ways and unless things did not happen like he wants, he would not bother about what comrpromise was reached and this is the reason why India became "secular" where majority was force fed to be submissive to the minority

You really believe that India got freedom due to Gandhi?
After the end of WW2 the entire british fleet was in Mumbai manned by indian sailors. and there was a revolt when the soldiers of INA were to be court martialled in Delhi, and the idea of these sailors was to take over the fleet and take over Britain,
This was not to be that easy, but british population and reserves were all depleted by war and this was very much possible,
This was one of the immediate kneejerk reaction the british had, The war had depleted Britain.
Americans were not that eager to fight british war to keep india enslaved as that might have big repurcussions in America.

Gandhi played his role, so did million others.

He certainly did not deserve the tag "father of the nation", but he certainly was an inspirational figure and a man who walked the talk.

You can love him or hate him, but we can't ignore him.

Kejriwal must have considered Nehru his hero or idol, it was a nice blueprint for him to follow and Gandhi's one-way secularism and submission to Islam are not known to more people due to the way out textbooks are whitewashed since decades by Congress cronies.

How can you hate or ignore currency, Gandhi is on our currency notes and so everyone loves him
Unfortunately gandhi has come off the walls and in our wallets

The answer is simple.

His army was called "Azad hind fauj" and NOT "Swatantra Hind Sena". Spot the difference ?

I am not Good in Nuance and Semantics

Anyway; I personally think that Bose's Death was a Huge Blessing for India

What his elder Brother Sarat Chandra Bose was planning with Suhrawardy of East Bengal ;
it was nothing but disaster for India

The british starved bengal during the famine to punish them for supporting Netaji. This fact has been whitewashed from history.

Inertia has to be destroyed by war. The population was filled with stupidity and retarded values. The inertia had to be broken and maximum violence had to be unleashed to give a fresh breath of life rising from scratch. Violence creates heroes who are pragmatic and fit to lead with a vision.

Lack of violence causes disunity, purposeless existence and a sense of injustice that the wrongs of the past have not been undone.

Extreme violence is how a rotten society is destroyed and a new society is formed. Inertia is the main culprit and only death can break inertial force

@STEPHEN COHEN I am surprised what retarded attitude of Sarat Chandra Bose had that made him want independent Bengal and North East just like that.

But, are you sure that Subhash Bose had an intention of granting pakistan independence had he won the war?

Bose had No control and Influence in the North and Western areas where Pakistan was formed ie Punjab and Sindh

So he could not have stopped that area from going to Pakistan

His influence was in Bengal

Jinnah was adamant about All Muslim majority provinces going into Pakistan

That meant the Whole of Bengal and Punjab

But Patel got the partition of Bengal and this is how we got Assam and the North east

Subhash Bose was said to very close to Sarat bose and they were like 2 people
with Identical thinking

So this is where the Problem begins

Later we saw Sarat Bose trying to prevent partition of Bengal

In this situation had Subhash been alive what would he have done

A united Bengal in India means TODAY we would have 150 Million more Muslims
plus they would have swamped The entire North east

Yes, you are right in that muslim population would have swamped everywhere. But, Subhash Chandra Bose was unlikely to gift an independent Bengal like his brother to become independent. Subhash Chandra Bose was not a coward to give away land like his brother.

If muslims were allowed to stay in India, with the added oil power, stupidity of Hindus and over breeding nature of muslims would meand that things would have turned very bad. Had Hindus been dominant people, then the unity would have meant reconversion of muslims into akhand Hindu Rashtra. But, Hindus were too disgusting and hopeless back then with no self respect and mere savage lives.

As a matter of fact, partition was the best thing to happen but it could have been better if muslims were completely expelled just like Muslims did so in Pakistan despite Jinnah promising a secular pakistan and that hindus would not be harmed.
