The Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every year.

The video of the incident, which reportedly occurred on January 09, has gone viral. It shows that the jawans were sliding down the rope while ejecting from the Advanced Light Helicopter when it broke.

Army sources said an investigation was on as to how the accident occurred.

Meanwhile, President Awardee special forces veteran Major Surendra Poonia, while sharing the video on Twitter, commented: "With equipment like this, we don't need an enemy to kill our soldiers."

As per reports, the incident is said to have occurred due to a helicopter boom malfunction. Former retired Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain too tweeted about the shocking accident.

The Indian Army celebrates Army Day every year on January 15 every year in honour of Lieutenant General KM Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army who took over its reins on 15 January 1949 officially, though Independence from the British colonisers was effective from 15 August 1947.

How did the officer conclude the equipment was faulty? Or his contention is accidents happen only when equipment is faulty?

Stupid sensationalist media, publicity hungry ex officer.

I thought Cariappa was promoted to full General on getting the C-in-C position. The only Lt. General who served as C-in-C on either side of the border was Gul Hassan.

The fractured section looks worse than pig iron . Had the cantilever broken off and fallen on a soldier's head, you can only imagine.

IA must stop blaming build quality as material failures are very common. Even in IN we have triple redundancy for rope. Its IA which is at fault for changing its SOP and this Major Poonia needs to be kicked on his butt for shooting from the hip. Infact no armed force anywhere in the world has single point attachment for ropes for slithering.

He might, or might not have. Every jackass knows that there is a limit to load-bearing capacity of materials. What can take the weight of single soldiers might not take the weight of four.
Yes but looking at the video, its just a routine exercise.
Anyway this incident must be investigated thoroughly and culprit must be charged with attempted murder of 6 armymen.

Yes everything except the most apparent poor manufacturing standards by our Babu company. Its clearly a metal breakdown not some loose nut and bolt felling apart.
The metal of the rope handle was broken. The airframe didn't fall apart. These things are not made by HAL. They are extrafitting and can be altered as and when needed. How logical is it to blame HAL manufacturing quality for an extrafitting part breakdown?

Look at the tweet image. The protruding part was cut:

OK , but its highly unlikely that it is done by army and not by manufacturer itself.
Still its not clear so yes anything is possible.
