Lockheed unveils new F-21 fighter jet configured for India

Lockheed, unveiling the plan at an airshow in Bengaluru, said it was offering India a new plane configured for its needs.

NEW DELHI: Lockheed Martin offered India a new combat jet, F-21, on Wednesday to be made locally, in a bid to win a large military order worth over $15 billion.

The U.S. defence firm had earlier offered its F-16 fighter used by countries around the world for the Indian air force's ongoing competition for 114 planes to be made in India.

But Lockheed, unveiling the plan at an airshow in the southern city of Bengaluru, said it was offering India a new plane configured for its needs.

"The F-21 is different, inside and out,” Vivek Lall, vice president of Strategy and Business Development for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, said in a statement.

The company will build the plane in collaboration with Tata Advanced Systems, the firm said.

Lockheed is competing with Boeing's F/A-18, Saab's Gripen, Dassault Aviation’s Rafale, the Eurofighter Typhoon and a Russian aircraft for the air force order.

What the hell is this? So thats why Tejas has been made to do canopy changes and what not? Looks like IAF has been working closely with Lock-Mart for sometime. And is this just the rebranded F-16? Old wine in new bottle? @vstol-jockey @Falcon @Milspec

The music is totally annoying. There is not even a single ounce of stealth features in the design. Single Engine. F-16 renamed to '20' series so that it feelz modern. Make no mistake this is an 80 year old bald grandpa calling himself "Alex" to look 25. Screw IAF and GoI if they select this abomination.

Hay they are complaining that F-16 is old! Let's call it F-21 problem solved.

Here is your grandpa's F-16.

The tag line should be :

"Not Completely" From India; To Fool India.

The first all non stealthy design from LM until 20 years.....
A pity.
It has absolutely ZERO CHANCE to win.

Super F16 would have been an OK choice if we had gone that route in 2011. I'm sure it would have been in production by now and we would have the fiscal wherewithal to buy a few hundred of them (which we can't with Rafale).

There is just no point in wasting time on this $hit now. We need to directly move to the F-35.

LOL.
The F35 is not FOC.
The real and definitive price is not known.
The real operationnal costs are totally unknown (because not FOC).
The "make in India" content in the case of a F16 (sorry, F21) or SH18 will be the smallest, not to speak about F35. (Uncle Donald want to produce in america).
There is a Pb between S400 and F35 (see Turkey).

This is a last attempt full of BS.
