I agree.
The rabids are very offputting. The war calls by the piggy backers like our very own Kshitij ji is dangerous. But, the brilliant part is the BJP doesnt give out any murderous statements.
Its an interesting dichotomy to me. The Jihadis and naxalists and caste parties definitely vote anti-right wing, Congress. Do propaganda for it. Try every trick n the book to avoid the BJP. But the congress is not responsible for any of its killings- the congress officially maintains secularism. The BJP also officially has spoken for true secularism.
The kill counts of the jihadists and naxals are massive in comparison to the right wing ones. But right wing killings are pinned on the BJP, no matter the cow killings have been expressly condemened by the PM. But the other ones are not pinned on the congress. Why?
And Doc, I really would like to understand , what other law is there or is being pushed for, that makes you second class?
Last thing first. As of now there is no other. Even the beef one I am not particularly fussed by except that my favorite Parsi burger guy, Burger King (he won the case against the MNC incidentally) has stopped beef burgers. Chicken is just crap compare to beef in a burger. Period. But my son and I still eat it. Better than the radioactive pellets that pass for burgers in the big chains ....
Anyways ...
Its all about perception.
Modi has a history. That bit is always just beneath the surface. He has to - as the Americans would say - do more. There is no escaping the fact that a large part of the electorate did not vote for the BJP till the Godhra case was still on.
Most of us, fed up by the Congress, were dying for a change. For a credible alternative.
We were extremely excited to get that when the verdict was finally given. Even with doubts in many minds, most agreed it was the Muslims who started it, and that 10 years was more than enough, and our backside was burning with Congress corruption, and that it was time to try out Modi and his Gujarat magic at the national platform.
But after we voted for him (I was one of his loudest backers, and I did put my vote where my mouth was - I even put a photo of my finger and my wife's finger on PDF the evening after we voted - under an alias of course), there has been a huge let down.
Neither did we see the magic.
Nor did we get the inclusive cultural Hindutva they conned us into buying.
It was a con job. And we fell for it.
The Hindu right wingers will say, that's your fault. His agenda was always very clear.
Well, it wasn't clear to us. I believe we were fooled.
I believe you guys (present supporters) are still being fooled. This "BJP is not doing anything" is the way one boils a frog. One does it on a slow flame. One does not catch the frog by its neck and drop it into boiling water (riots, killings, laws, mandir, Constitutional changes, etc.)
Cheers, Doc
