Off-Topic Chit-Chat

Its the cow that is holy.

Not the bull and bullock.

The bull is actually Zoroastrian - both ritual sacrifice as well as the taro (consecrated urine) of the albino bull.

Cheers, Doc
And I already told you in point 1. You could have sourced it from a direct--buying enterprise easily. Only animal markets were affected.

See. You are talking with your emotions out. In principle. in points 3,4,5 , your right to do very ordinary things is curtailed based on the sentiments of a few. Most probably under the guardianship of secular govts. Were they tyrants?

I have placed my arguments for the beef. Go on. This is a pretty minute one. Give me another few laws. You find it difficult to forgive 2 months of animal market banning. yet so easy to forgive the emergency, the scams, the outright soldout behaviour with the chinese and Pakistanis

You have still not told me why the law was expanded to include bulls and bullocks. When it is the cow that Hindus hold holy.

You have skirted the issue of selective ban in states where the BJP found it politically imprudent to push the issue.

You are bringing in other nations when the discussion was about "which laws has the BJP specifically made that directly favor only Hindus."

The point is simple. The BJP has taken it upon itself to kick the Muslims in their collective stomach. Through legislation. Be it by drying up what they can eat or putting their butchers out of business.

Now way to skirt around that.

Cheers, Doc

No. I have not skirted around anything. You fail to understand the larger point that shit gets banned if a group wants it in democracies. Happens everywhere.

Your point that it kicks Muslims are also not entirely accurate.
Who is making millions in India out of beef export? Muslims? Think Again
Out of six largest meat suppliers in India three are Hindus owned - The Siasat Daily

So more than conceding that a hyped rhetoric exists. This is pretty minor.

And as i said these banning laws happen. Unfairly targetting me for the rhino meats and dog meats in other areas. Would you agree then that all these places are oppressing their own population?
This is pretty weak oppression really. Give me another few examples now.

@vsdoc can't think if any other topic ??? I mean Hinduism or the other isms????avoid the religious topic please..

We are discussing the beef ban.

And before that with Stephen and company, it was BJP vs the Congress.

Why are you picking on my name alone? It is not appreciated.

A conversation does not happen as a soliloquy on a forum.

Oh come on , nair. I am trying to convert our doc to the dark side. He would make a brilliant minion. The passion is there. Its just friendly chit chat.
We will stop ourselves if descending into the maa-behen.

We will stop ourselves if decending into the maa-behen.

We've not been converted for 8000 years and counting.

Just saying. :)

Knock yourself out though.

Cheers, Doc

Ah, but we dont care about your faith. You can keep it. We want your SOUL, cough, vote.

One vote hardly counts man.

I am aghast at guys all around plotting (albeit on the internet) and exulting at the Congress's decimation (not that the revival is not underway now).

None of us have had to endure what it means to live in a country without free choice and accountability of leadership.

Careful what you wish for ....

I agree.
The rabids are very offputting. The war calls by the piggy backers like our very own Kshitij ji is dangerous. But, the brilliant part is the BJP doesnt give out any murderous statements.
Its an interesting dichotomy to me. The Jihadis and naxalists and caste parties definitely vote anti-right wing, Congress. Do propaganda for it. Try every trick n the book to avoid the BJP. But the congress is not responsible for any of its killings- the congress officially maintains secularism. The BJP also officially has spoken for true secularism.
The kill counts of the jihadists and naxals are massive in comparison to the right wing ones. But right wing killings are pinned on the BJP, no matter the cow killings have been expressly condemened by the PM. But the other ones are not pinned on the congress. Why?

And Doc, I really would like to understand , what other law is there or is being pushed for, that makes you second class?

Have deleted some very long posts just because it was nothing but religious..... the poster has put lot of effort in writing them......does not feel good in deleting them....

Done. Someone will report it. We are talking about Indian politics and Laws. No religious scriptures here. I prefer to leave the argument than descend into low-class bashing.

I think unless you see trolling, abuse, bad behavior or other mayhem, you should have some faith in a guy who has been at this for a decade now.

It is a little annoying to be treated like kids when we are in the process of growing a forum and setting its tone.

Please take this in the right spirit as an old friend.

While unlike some of you, we have not put our money into this, it is still our time and intellectual capital that is being deployed.

@Avi @Aashish @Arvind

Last thing first. As of now there is no other. Even the beef one I am not particularly fussed by except that my favorite Parsi burger guy, Burger King (he won the case against the MNC incidentally) has stopped beef burgers. Chicken is just crap compare to beef in a burger. Period. But my son and I still eat it. Better than the radioactive pellets that pass for burgers in the big chains ....

Anyways ...

Its all about perception.

Modi has a history. That bit is always just beneath the surface. He has to - as the Americans would say - do more. There is no escaping the fact that a large part of the electorate did not vote for the BJP till the Godhra case was still on.

Most of us, fed up by the Congress, were dying for a change. For a credible alternative.

We were extremely excited to get that when the verdict was finally given. Even with doubts in many minds, most agreed it was the Muslims who started it, and that 10 years was more than enough, and our backside was burning with Congress corruption, and that it was time to try out Modi and his Gujarat magic at the national platform.

But after we voted for him (I was one of his loudest backers, and I did put my vote where my mouth was - I even put a photo of my finger and my wife's finger on PDF the evening after we voted - under an alias of course), there has been a huge let down.

Neither did we see the magic.

Nor did we get the inclusive cultural Hindutva they conned us into buying.

It was a con job. And we fell for it.

The Hindu right wingers will say, that's your fault. His agenda was always very clear.

Well, it wasn't clear to us. I believe we were fooled.

I believe you guys (present supporters) are still being fooled. This "BJP is not doing anything" is the way one boils a frog. One does it on a slow flame. One does not catch the frog by its neck and drop it into boiling water (riots, killings, laws, mandir, Constitutional changes, etc.)

Cheers, Doc

Which is precisely why, I want to know exactly what has been changed that it is no longer inclusive? Even the damn beef ban was struck down by the SC. And it was not pursued through subvertive means ala the Shah Bano case. I will just say , I am not convinced. How are the riots in West Bengal and pre-BJP UP, conveniently swept away now? Presently, I think this is a reactionary counterweight to radical Islam, and will only completely disappear when its opposite disappears. The beef ban argument is childish, really.

It does not matter what the SC does.

On the ground the beef ban stays. And no one has the guts to do anything about it. Because no one has the confidence of the protetion of the dispensation. Mr S of Burger King is still not making King Beef and Beef burgers, nor the steak burgers (though the chicken steak with the same sauces is pretty close - though not as chewy) because he refuses to pay protection money to the local Hindu right wing goons who are camped in his eatery.

So same thing.

You are wanting to see examples of the government actually practicing bigotry by commission.

I'm telling you that the bigotry of "plausible deniability" omission hurts as bad. Even worse.

The sangh parivar are the BJP's "non state actors" ...

Its Gandhi ke teen bandar ... while the hounds go to town.
