S-400 'Triumf' News & Discussion

Turkey will get S-400.

Turkey says Russian S-400 missile delivery brought forward to July...
The planned delivery of Russian S-400 surface-to-air missile batteries to Turkey has been brought forward to July 2019, the Turkish undersecretary for defense industries said, from the first quarter of 2020.
? Not so sure.
USA are putting all their weight against that.
1) They are the sole able to made them change.
2) It's probably why Patriot is surfacing.
3) I've a doubt uncle Sam will agree to see some russian engineer too near a F35. And the contrary.

The next few months will be very interesting !

EUROSAM = ASTER30
Are you sure?

Turkey has awarded Eurosam, Aselsan and Roketsan a contract for the definition study of the future Turkish Long Range Air and Missile Defence System. The contract award was made during the meeting of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President Emmanuel Macron today in Paris.

Scheduled to last 18 months, this definition study aims at preparing the development and production contract for the future system meeting the operational requirements of the Turkish Air Force. The contract was awarded by the SSM (the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries), which is responsible for acquisitions under the President of Republic of Turkey, jointly to Turkish companies Aselsan and Roketsan, and to the Franco-Italian consortium Eurosam; backed by its two shareholders MBDA and Thales.

The contract follows on from the Heads of Agreement signed by the Industry on 14 July 2017 and the Letter Of Intent signed by the French, Italian and Turkish Defence Ministers on 8 November 2017.

Welp, if Turkey really does cancel the S-400, that's insane.

The Patriot can complement the S-400. The Turkish won't cancel the deal, their S-400s are already in production.

What about F35 ?
are the US agree to see the sword and the shield in the same country?
Or S400, or F35 or the two will be downgraded models so as not to risk a major leak.

The S-400 and F-35 can work independently. If necessary, the Turks can unilaterally upgrade the S-400 to communicate with the F-35 though Link 16.

India, Russia conclude negotiations for S-400 Triumf deal

New Delhi, May 27 (PTI) India has concluded price negotiations with Russia for a nearly Rs 40,000 crore deal to procure S-400 Triumf air defence missile systems for the Indian Air Force, officials said

They said the two countries are now trying to find a way out to evade the provisions of a US law that seeks to punish countries and entities engaged in transactions with the defence or intelligence establishment of Russia

"The negotiations for the missile deal have been concluded. The financial component has been finalised," a top official involved in the negotiations for the deal with Russia told PTI

The official said both Russia and India are likely to announce the deal before an annual summit between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin in October

Two other officials said both sides are now looking at ways to insulate the deal from the sanctions announced by the US against Russia under its Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA)

The issue is understood to have figured during Modi's informal talks with Putin in Sochi last week

There has been mounting concerns in India over the US sanctions against Russian defence majors including Rosoboronexport as billions of dollars of military purchases may be impacted because of the punitive measure

The US had announced sanctions against Russia under the stringent law for its alleged meddling in the American presidential election in 2016

CAATSA, which came into effect in January, mandates the Donald Trump administration to punish entities engaging in significant transaction with the defence or intelligence establishment of Russia

US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis last month appealed to the Congress to urgently provide India the national security waiver, saying imposing sanctions under CAATSA for the S-400 air defence missile deal would only hit the US

India wants to procure the long-range missile systems to tighten its air defence mechanism, particularly along the nearly 4,000-km-long Sino-India border

In 2016, India and Russia had signed an agreement on the 'Triumf' interceptor-based missile system which can destroy incoming hostile aircraft, missiles and even drones at ranges of up to 400 km. S-400 is known as Russia's most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile defence system

China was the first foreign buyer to seal a government-to-government deal with Russia in 2014 to procure the lethal missile system and Moscow has already started delivery of unknown number of the S-400 missile systems to Beijing

The S-400 is an upgraded version of the S-300 systems. The missile system, manufactured by Almaz-Antey, has been in service in Russia since 2007.

We'll have to fall back on Israel for armed drones for now.

Honestly, for India's purposes, a fighter jet with standoff strike capability is good enough (for the time being - eventually India will need armed drones).

The success of the LCA program is now dependent on the supply of American engines.

Rustom-2 will become available by 2020.

But to get to America's level, we will need 10 more years, so getting American drones today is crucial, but not at the cost of losing out on the S-400s. If they do sanction us, then that will also mean the end of India's defence relations with America, so they are not that stupid either.

Israel could stop certain sales if pressurised by Unkil

If the Israelis deny sales, it's their loss then. But the US won't stop Israeli sales because even the Israelis are way behind on their drone program. Our own drone programs will overtake the Israeli programs in a few years, so any imports of that level are temporary.

Overall, I see a status quo. They don't have a choice but to give India a waiver.

Long back I had written that purchasing US weapons will make us susceptible to US sanctions and most of the equipment bought from them will turn junk over night. Those prophetic words are now coming true. First they will deny tech, later they will deny spares. just wait and watch. This aspect of Namo foreign policy has turned out to be a big disaster for the nation. AND we have attack hepters also on order. I am sure that we might never see them fly in India and US will do to us what they did to Pakistan about F-16s. Keep the money and don't deliver the stuff.

They are not planning to do anything to stuff we have already signed. All signed deals will continue as is. As of now, they are only threatening to stop supply of armed drones, but it's not going to amount to anything beyond a threat, just noise.

I don't see them doing anything to India in fact. I only see status quo for us.

But yeah, we should not buy critical and offensive weapons systems from them.
