Modi started his second innings, with the Finance Minister presenting her maiden budget. However, not much seems to have been deduced in terms of security for India.
The primary purpose of any country’s security policy is to promote its national interest- to ensure security, safeguard its sovereignty, and contribute to its growth and prosperity. Since independence, security has taken a back seat. The irony is that today the nation has not provided its forces with the wherewithal necessary to ensure security.
Modi had changed and given new directions. India’s Foreign Policy has been a constant matter of intrigue and debate as to what approach New Delhi should take in the emerging Global Order in the 21st century. There is no denying that India, one of the largest democracies and economy in the world, plays a pivotal role in shaping up the Global Order. There are various schools of thought on India’s Foreign Policy; first is the classic old school of thought that advocates India maintaining its strong friendship with Russia, ironing out differences with China and creating a Pan-Asian Bloc, somewhat on the lines of Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa (BRICS). Then there is the other school of thought, which calls for a shift in India’s Foreign Policy from the Classical Asian One to a Global One, suggesting New Delhi to embrace Washington, Tokyo and Canberra more openly in Asia-Pacific. These two schools of thought on India’s Foreign Policy are advocated by various intellectuals and backed by vested interest, lobbies etc. It is in this context that one needs a clear view of India’s aggressive Foreign Policy, which has been the hallmark of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
We need reassesment as to what to expect. India will be climbing the ladder in Global matters. Modi will focus on creating strategic containmnt of prime adversary.
Modi Doctrine is of “Strategic Autonomy”.
