This aircraft gives a lot of options now.
But I'm not sure of the 2 points on the fuselage being able to carry a 3.6m missile. Regardless, 8 missiles is plenty.
A 2.9 meter ASRAAM is a better option. Two additional WVRAAMs won't hurt.

What's the range of the Mk1a? And are you quoting combat radius figures above or ferry range? No. The MKI's range is 3000Km on internal fuel.
On internal fuel, the Mk2 will comfortably outrange Mig-29, F-16, LCA Mk1, Mig-21 etc, which have ranges between 1400 and 2100Km. It will match Rafale, Gripen E and SH in the 2300 to 2500Km class.
With 3 drop tanks, at about 4000Km, the Mk2 will comfortably outrange MKI by at least 1000Km.
Of course, we are hoping MKI gets some significant upgrades in fuel carried, like the Su-35, including drop tanks, which will increase MKI's range to 4500Km.
Mk2 will more than meet the IAF's requirement for a single engine 4th gen fighter.

But if I'm not mistaken, one of the reason why the Mk1 is pilloried is coz of its lack of range. it's around 400 kms of combat radius. You're quoting something else.Mk1 is 1700Km. Mk1A is bound to be better if the weight has been reduced drastically even after the addition of new equipment. Anything above 1800Km is excellent for the design.
Basic range or ferry range. You fly from one point to another using up all your fuel. Combat radius would be 40% of all those figures I mentioned.

ADA has always been successful in developing a jet on paper. Simply very impressive details. But as usual don't expect them to deliver on the timeline they have promised. This is completely new platform don't expect 1st TD flight before 2023, even if MK2 shares majority of tech with MK1.
Biggest new thing with regard to hardpoints in my opinion, is the inclusion of wingtip points.
And with a Multi-Ejector Rail on the inner underwing missile hardpoint, you can get 10 missiles and 3 tanks in an A2A mission load (if both points under inlets carry missiles as an A2A load won't require any pods).
Yes you are right ...I saw it later when I was reading one of your comment on hard points...love this design .but only concern is funding and timelines.Govt should fund this project properly and avoid vested interest to slowdown the development. You missed the cropped delta design.

The canards need to have a dihedral of at least 5* to be of any major benefit.
They are planning first flight in Dec 2023. Which means the aircraft will enter the engineering phase only next year.
So you can expect a full squadron only in 2030.
Falcon was right on the bet.
His assessment~ first flight not before the end of 2023
