They better not impose fees. We're not paying someone for simply being an arsehole. I mean, what if Saudi Arabia just started attacking all non-friendly-associated civilian vessels passing through Red Sea, or Egypt decides to put a 900% toll increase on all non-friendly-associated civilian vessels going through Suez. I mean shit, why doesn't France and UK put a toll on Russian or Chinese vessels passing through the English Channel, that actually is territorial waters too. @Picdelamirand-oil. Or maybe the EU puts a toll on the Med for all axis arseholes. Strait of Gibraltar is a good one too, again that actually is territorial waters too. Scandinavia - Al those Straits and Baltic.

You know, looking at the fact that 2 US pilots went down well inside Iran and they landed a flying circus inside Iran to rescue them, followed by another flying circus when stuff went wrong with aircraft in first lot, but were still able to get both pilots out without the IRGC being able to capitalise on it, I have to ask just how well the IRGC would do in the event of an invasion?

The only way the IRGC surrenders is if they lose everything, their detterant is the fact that Iranian terrain is drastically worse than anything in afghanistan and invading and taking out insurgent and idealogically motivated groups would be among the greatest nightmares and army could face especially with the advent of drones. The advent of drones could go both ways: IF the IRGC is able to get a stable supply of 3D printed drones then it becomes a nightmare for US army troops in the mountains of iran and will lead to insane casualties but if the IRGC is unable to get a mass production of drones underway and is fragmented then the US can flood iran with their own drones to flush people out. Both scenearios would lead to high casualties but one scenario is better than the other.
Listen man I repect "some" of your takes but invasion of iran would be among the stupidest/most controversial decisions ever made in US history and will only go one of 2 ways : The US gets locked into a ground invasion that makes afghanistan looks like childs play or the IRGC capitulates very very quickly leading to a surrender.

Many drones would be less of a problem up in mountains because they don't fly at that altitude. Equally, the CSAR mission to rescue the pilots saw no drones because their battlefield co-ordination is so poor. Insurgents will be a problem and it will be a long term thing, but eventually insurgents die off, they just didn't wait around long enough in Afghanistan (or possibly came to an arrangement we don't know about).
The IRGC is linchpin of nearly all terrorism in the region, as well as being tyrants amongst their own people and an ally to China, DPRK and Russia and removing it would be a good thing for most people.
