A USN ship being constructed by an Italian shipbuilder ?
Which shipyard - is that too in Italy ?

Fincantieri Marinette Marine is a located in Marinette, Wisconsin & is a subsidiary of Fincantieri since 2009.

There is nothing new in this. For example, the Independence class LCS was made by the US subsidiary of Austal Australia.

That's a DDG from other countries point of view!

Most That's the trend these days- Frigates displacing more than earlier destroyers, destroyers displacing more than yesteryears' cruisers. That said, most of those pseudo destroyer frigates were operated by European Navies.

There was a rumour that USN would select a more General purpose 'patrol frigate' based on the USCGS National Security Cutter. I guess USN isn't interested in cheaper warships anymore after seeing how the LCS turned out to be a total shitshow.

USN has programs like Zumwalt and LCS on hand, and conservative programs such as this. Dont get me wrong, the Italian design is a superb ship, but given that USN is ordering a new class one would have expected something more futuristic. Opting for a 57mm cannon is also mind boggling.
