The lip service for over decades has caused a lot of resentment in the NE for Delhi. The resentment spreads across multiple issues, not just this one. You could say, in a way the Assamese have grown more in-flexible because of the numerous broken promises. So they will bargain hard in the hope to get to at least a middle ground with Delhi.

This is charitable because non indigenous people have already reduced the indigenous people into minorities and Assamese have had enough. Since the current NRC has popular backing and was set up by the SC, lets consider only these left out by the NRC as illegal migrants and help relocate them to Bangladesh and force them on a state and its population that don't want anymore of it. India is not duty bound to accept anymore refugees, Hindus or Muslims( in case you think I'm being unfair to Bengalees, i don't India to take in any of the Tamil refugees too). yes i understand how the politics of referendum works, in case we undertake a referendum on adopting Hindi as the national language, i recon i would be in the minority too, but it still would be bad decision and amount to self inflicted injury.

As for NRC, there is no draft for NRC. If the NRC is wrong and arbitrary it would make sense to protest then!

And even after that You want the burden of secularism to be shared by Hindus alone. Why should we keep these illegal muslim intruders. If they want to come to India, let them bring the land they took away in 1947. I have no problem with these muslims if they break apart Pakistan and Bangladesh and merge that territory to India. After all our citizenship act allows for grant of citizenship thru acquisition of territory. And in such a case there is no waiting period also. Instant citizenship.

I thought this nation was governed thru its constitution and SC was the final authority on any act inacted by any state govt or Center. What we are now seeing is that muslims have already denounced and declared SC as being biased. They have openly stated that they have no faith in SC. Now what does this amount to? Is this not treason? Does this not mean that they have clearly stated that they do not believe in the constitution of India? How should they be treated in such a scenario? The validity of this act has been challenged in SC thru over 59 petitions, SC has already issued notices to center. Why cant everyone wait till SC gives its verdict on this act?
The truth is that all these agitators know that act is as per our constitution and they stand no chance to get it abrogated thru SC. So the excuses have already been made and this explains the reason for violence.

The gates for mass scale population exchanges remained well open between India and Pakistan till they permanently and irrevocably closed post the 1965 war.

That was 17 years after the split.
