Lok Sabha passes Citizenship Bill amidst Opposition outcry

Parents dead:
Has two scenario's, were the offsprings born in India or outside India.
If born in India - Naturalized Indian Citizen
If born outside India:- then needs path to citizenship

Path to citizenship:
Through CAA as a religious discrimination claim if part of the identified classification in the act.
If not in the classification, i.e Muslims, Jews, Zoroastrians, then go through regular asylum process.

CAA is just a mechanism for the fast-tracking path to citizenship.

Where is the discrimination?

why should there be any fast tracking of citizenship for any illegal migrants who have not bothered to declare themselves refugees? And when modi says this will fight illegal migration how does it add one bit to that objective?

Yes, i understand that. And I believe it could pass SC scrutiny. But Atheism was good to have. Its up to Government to decide whom to include but there is no defence for it.
Never know how a good lawyer can place the atheism argument, so that remains an issue for me, especially when you reminded of hacking of bloggers in BD.

How do you establish who's an atheist from these countries? They can't officially declare so. At the same time if you include such a provision you risk opening the flood gates. All those excluded from the provisions of this bill will claim atheism as their excuse to enter India & stay put. Including those groups like Ahmeddiyas whom we don't want.

Egg and Chicken argument.

When there is no tool available to the immigrants to the path to citizenship, why would a refugee identify themselves as a refugee? especially refugees who fled countries like Pakistan overstayed their visas and potentially violated the law.

Now that CAA has been passed, it gives the illegal immigrants who have fled to escape religious persecution will get a path to citizenship. Exactly what you are asking for.

He will have to that prove he is prosecuted because of his irreligiousness. The numbers will be very small. A theocratic society will manifest evidence for him. Like Pakistani blasphemy case or BD public attack on Atheist case.

again an illegal migrants is NOT a refugee. A refugee is legally protected from consequences through asylum and his or her stay is LEGAL. ALL THE process required for this process is already in place. Who gave you the idea that minorities in these countries are persecuted? You think the few Hindu or Sikh senators and doctors in Pakistan are persecuted? They are not until they declare themselves persecuted and seek asylum as refugees.
You think the US declare all people from Syria or all ahmadiya from Pakistan as persecuted and given them automatic citizenship? Everyone that crosses the border needs to apply for refugee status if not whichever country they are from will automatically face consequences if they violate visas

But bill says religious persecution and atheism isnt a religion technically atleast not recognised by any Indian legislature

this too sophisticated a logic for his tiny brain

India hasn't sign any refugee convention FYI. So this refugee issue is BS.

Looks like Kipal Sibal's speech was carried through to it's target audience.

It amended the Citizenship Act of 1955 by providing a path to Indian citizenship for Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian religious minorities fleeing persecution from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

It doesn't differentiate between refugees and illegal immigrants. It specifies the word "Migrants", who can be legal Migrants illegal migrants, and Refugees.

Let's not forget the bill passed both houses.

In my opinion, can be used to stall the bill as it falls within the classification group aimed towards the primary intent of the act.

Supreme court will only decide its constitutionality and our consititution itself doesnt recognise athiests

this is not 1955 when a porous border and hasty partition made the situation murky. Why do you think it was amended in 2004. In 1947 Pakistan accepted all Muslim from India. Day before yesterday imran khan declared Pakistan will not accept any Muslim refugees from India.

Without moderation this thread would have been 70 pages..... that will give you a clue how many posts are deleted....

So.. there are many people who are atheists.. .but identify as "cultural hindus", and support hindu causes... like Aarti Tikoo, and Abhijit iyer mitra... likewise there are many atheists of muslim origin who still identify as cultural muslims like Farhan Akhtar.. and support muslim causes... Also, changing ones beliefs from Atheist to Believer doing namaz five times a day, after getting citizenship papers, does not involve paperwork. It will encourage Taqqiya... Hence, no atheists... they can apply through other routes..

How is that relevant in facilitating Path to Citizenship for migrants fleeing religious persecution?
