I think we need to start developing mobile SRBM system like 9K720 Iskander or LORA system on our own along with different type of Cruise missiles i mentioned few post back. Long range accurate safe engagement is the way forward. SCALP & Brahmos performance has been exceptionally well. Speed & stealth combo took Porkee airbases completely by surprise now imagine a conventional Quasi ballistic missile with both the characteristics.

No one know Astra MK2 true range but we now know what's PL 15 true range is so stop coping nothing special about Chong missiles.

No it isn't.... Chinese PL 15 has 90 Mile Range but Chinese claim the domestic version has 124 Milie range... I say BS + claimed range & actual range of Astra Mk2 in all likely is miles apart 😜.....Chinese AWACS performance is sub par according to Porkee themselves..... Astra Mk2 & Gandiva is on a completely different league all together 🙂

With all due respect sir I don't think it's wise to underestimated them in such a way anymore. Especially with a potential rafale kill by PL15. Even if ZDK was not used Eriye is formidable and they may have linked PL15 with eriye. Even if not lolwa said eriye is linked with jeff and j10 which means they can use awacs info to update the PL15 towards its target. Imo to regain our supremacy we absolutely need Netra mk1a awacs with datalink to Astra mk2 and Gandiva. This can make us take down their jeff and j10s like flies. We absolutely need to achieve this before the next clash.

I was the first to break the news here that they've got the real PL-15s rather than the downgraded PL-15E export variant.

And I am telling you very explicitly that Astra 2 matches PL-15's "operational range". It is supposedly faster too. Su-30MKI with Astra 2 will give us parity against enemy fighters equipped with PL-15s. However, you're correct that Virupaksha + Gandiva combo would give us the superiority that we would like to have over our enemy.

Post Bill Clinton era, China made rapid progress in avionics, semiconductor chips etc. PL-15 with dual-pulse motor and AESA seeker was the same missile that unnerved the mighty USAF post which they kickstarted AIM-260 JATM. So if they had lead over USAF, then naturally we were behind.

But now thanks to our scientists backed by a super supportive nationalistic Modi gov. means that we've caught up with China in-terms of GaAs, GaN chips. With GaN on diamond, we could disrupt them in future too.

PL-15s were inducted in 2016 in China....
These may be initial batch. Their range is 200km+ so more than Astra mk2. We are essentially 2 decades behind China.

Also while most here keep laughing at Chinese weapons but they improve on thier shortcomings very very fast. In software there is a term fast follow the chinese even do it in hardware.
Check their auto industry they are already on par with EU/Japanese/Korean.


Key takeaways from me

+ AD worked really well. Aakash/Barak were awesome. Indias Iron Dome moment.
+ Brahmos-A battle proven now. Worked flawlessly.
+ A2G supremacy clear. (Honestly shameful for Pakistan)
+ IWT out of focus.

- A2A needs a lot of work. We didn't down even a single of their Jet. This means much better Radars/BVRs needed and not underestimating PL-15 and J10.
- G2G capabilities need much more improvement. Not sure why we even need Jets in the air to hit anything anywhere in Pakistan. Any jets needed should be for A2A battles.
- AWACS needed urgently.
- Need to manage the international optics much better and need to have an even stronger political will.
- Indian Media houses led by Arnab were shameful (but we knew that already)

Also why don't we have a Ground launched versions of the same missiles with boosters and integrate them with AWACS

These missiles only attain their max range at high altitudes and when going at high speeds. For eg Gandivas range drops to 190 km from 340 km when launching at altitude of 8km compared to 20 km iirc. At higher altitude there will be less air density which means less air resistance and hence more range for the missile as counteracting force is lower I think. I may be wrong other members plz correct if so.
