Nirbhay Family of Subsonic Cruise Missiles : News and Discussions

Finally launched from 8x8 launcher.

Test, test....Lora Lehasun. They have been testing various iteration of this for like 2 decades how many more tests.
We will buy lora or whatever we want, may even buy Tomahawk or Klub, may be even both. What's wrong in it? Go and ask DRDO why they failed to develop a cruise missile even after getting TOT for Brahmos. Remember, first flight of Nirbhay happened in 2012 as 1500 km class subsonic cruise missile , that program such a failiure that in between they rechristened as ITCM & later LR-LACM.

Nirbhay has as much commonality with BrahMos as an AK47 with railgun. Stop whining. Last 5 tests have been successfully, that's what count. AoN is there, so are DcPPs. Production EOI for the engines production was issued 3 years ago. That's it, this is the finish line. This time it was fired from a canister which indicates high level of readiness and near frozen configuration.

2012 to 2026,still undergoing development. Only thing which still not mature after similarly long nurturing is Mr Rahul.

Next iteration should look like this but with concealed air intake.

The air intake on the LR-LACM is already concealed within the missile's airframe IMG_20260615_150354.jpg

My guess is that DRDO would start working on further RCS reduction by incorporating stealth shaping once the baseline LR-LACM gets inducted across the three services.

Also, the Rudram-IV/LRSOW that is being worked upon may eventually end up being our JASSM type low observable cruise missile.

Looks like the engine can finally handle high distortion airflow. In ITCM, to keep things simple they had switched to a scoop-type intake.
