Air Defense & Radar System Installed at Lalmonirhat Airbase!

For the last two weeks, Bangladesh Army Aviation Group has been installing an air defence and radar system at Lalmonirhat air base where work on a massive hangar was completed late last year.

Security within the airbase, which is located less than 20 kms from the Bangladesh-India border with Cooch Behar district in West Bengal, has been upgraded considerably in view of the installation of the sensitive defence equipment.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's official visit to China could mark a decisive step in one of the most significant military modernization programs in Bangladesh's history. According to multiple reports from Dhaka, the Bangladeshi government is advancing negotiations to acquire 24 Chengdu J-10CE multirole fighter jets, with the goal of signing an agreement before August.

According to local media reports, a Chinese delegation recently visited Dhaka to accelerate discussions, while officials from both countries are expected to hold dedicated defense cooperation meetings during Rahman's stay in China. The prospective acquisition is reportedly part of a broader package of bilateral agreements encompassing infrastructure projects, investment initiatives, and economic cooperation.

Not sure if this thread is appropriate for reply. But in short, no SIPER for now. It is mostly media speculating or outright making stuff up. Current officially stated procurement pipeline include MRSAM/Hisar O+ for BAF and some Chinese/Turkish SHORAD/MRSAM for the army.

Will BD buy J10C or JF17 Blk 3? What about AWACS, any plan for Chinese/Euro AWACS?

It's either J-10C or Eurofighter. BAF has advanced negotiation with both parties. It is also a political decision so it is up to the gov to make the final decision and choose one of them

It is said, BD will sign J-10CE deal this month/August. If not, US has likely put enough pressure on BNP gov to stop pursuing Chinese jets and go for a western option.

“All the campaigns are a different stage, in terms of discussion,” says Leonardo Aircraft senior vice-president marketing & sales Tommaso Pani.

The most advanced activity is with Bangladesh, which last December signed a letter of intent (LOI) to acquire Typhoon – its plan is believed to be for a one squadron-strength of potentially around 10 fighters.

“Now we are in discussions as part of the negotiation, and are starting preparing the offer and defining the scope of supply,” he says. “Bangladesh is moving fast, and they really want to close the deal as soon as possible. Now it is a matter of defining whether or not the offer meets their budget.”

As for AWACS, there is no plan as such. BD doesn't really need AWACS. In its geography AWACS are not survivable, plus the areas that need to be covered and managed for air battle can mostly be done by long range ground based sensors. Which is where BAF is investing in. ( bought Thales GM403M and Leonardo Kronos few years ago. According to BAF chief, they will likely buy more GM403 or Turkish equivalent soon)

JF-17 B3 is mostly pushed by Pakistanis after rapprochement. From BAF ,only preliminary interest exist to explore the platform. No concrete negotiation exists.

I see. Is BD looking to buy both J10 and Typhoon? The pressure point is interesting, US pressure did not work for Azerbaijan and other countries so I am not sure how they can realistically pressure BD not to buy J10/JF17. They could threaten to stop BD imports but thats unlikely.

Wtr to tankers how many does Bangladesh have or is planning to aquire?
