Corvettes of Indian Navy : News and Discussions

if it can be quad-packed, only a single 8-cell VLS is all that would be needed.
I don't think actual UVLS is ready.

Public info about actual UVLS is limited to none.

Brahmos VLS is labeled as UVLS, but its bad, Brahmos UVLS is circular and in no way ut can quad packed.

I don't think it can even tri pack VL-SRSAM.

Yes, I would have preferred 8 too, but look at the BrahMos missile; it's a heavy boy with a standoff range of 900 km, and the ship is just 1500 cr a pop; the Visby-class cost the same in 2009
The NGMVs hull seems to be groaning under the weight of the missile. Sadly Brahmos M/NG is yet to make it's debut after years of waiting.

There's no comparison between NGMV and the all composite, LO-optimized Visby. Both are built for different operating environments.

We should have used navelised anti-ship LRLACM.(Nirbhay).

8 missile with over 1000km range, cost effective, can be used against ground targets from long distance, avoiding any ground based anti ship batteries.

The IN wants to equip Brahmos on as many ships as possible. Another reason could also be the faster reaction time (hot launch) offered by inclined launchers vs VLS in an anti-ship scenario.

Maybe they could've aligned the launchers flush with the superstructure (on either side as on the Veer class UPG) if stability/deck strength was an issue.

Afaik, only Russia is putting LRLACM like Kalibr on small corvettes as of now. That's mainly because they don't have too many large surface ships in commission right now. We have plenty of them.

Besides Brahmos AShM is land attack capable with a common seeker/guidance system across all 3 services.

Yeah but BrahMos is quite costly, that's why i suggested an 8 LR-LACM.

We definitely need to work on our own supersonic cruise missile, either with ramjet or RDE engine, and throw the BrahMos aerospace or buy its full shares.

need something like the "low cost, long range" type, the program the US in running right now calling on private start ups to come up with designs like anduril barracuda series and then the Russian S8000 banderol and then adapt it to like being able to launched from multiple assets like air and sea.

The unit cost of Brahmos should come down substantially once its ramjet engine is fully indigenized. Apparently, Brahmos M is also being designed around an Indian propulsion system.

We are also bound by contractual obligations to source stuff from Russia for Brahmos just like the MKI prog.

STAR seems to be a low cost target for now. However, I'd say it's 4 x tube inlets make it a better option for A2S roles than even the Brahmos which requires a nose cap for carriage. It might be capable of rail launch which should give it greater range.

Multiple ALCM designs are being developed by pvt cos like Panini and JSR with IAF support. The key is to make them modular with mix and match seeker and warhead options as is being done with older weapons like JASSM.

a system like rapid dragon using cargo aircraft will be one of the, if not the best system to pair with these mass saturation focused weapons.
