BLA commander in cheif Basheer Zeb message.

For those who don't know much about Basheer Zeb, It was Basheer Zeb ( A student activist turned militant) and former cheif Aslam Baloch who converted BLA from being a milita loyal to Mari tribal Sardars to a true Baloch popular militant organisation of all Baloch tribes. Earlier, BLA was a militant organisation created and led by Mari cheiften and his family. Aslam Baloch and Basheer Zeb in the mid 2010s, launched a coup and seized power from Marri sardar Hyrbyair Marri. Hyrbyair Marri, just like other baloch cheiftens were not leading from front and he was running organization from outside, making it easier for Aslam Baloch, a ground level commander to take over.

Aslam fraction gained support of all BLA commanders, and became the first non Sardar leader of BLA. Alsam founded Majeed Brigade and his son also joined the brigade and conducted suicide bomb attack against Chinese engineers in Balochistan. After Aslam's death, Basheer who is also from a commoner family and follower of Aslam, took control of BLA. Under his command BLA become more tech savvy, better organized and started using lots of IED attacks, assault and capture of Pakistan Army posts, and suicide attacks on strategic installations.

One of the suicide fighter died in FC camp attack was the brother of BRA (Now BNA) cheif (who is also a student activist turned militant).

1) BLA claimed responsibility for attack on Marble mine transport

Vehicles carrying natural resources from Balochistan targeted- BLA

Freedom fighters of Baloch Liberation Army attacked several vehicles with IED and automatic weapons in Hub, Balochistan. These vehicles were carrying the looted Baloch natural resources from Balochistan to Pakistan.

The targeted vehicles were involved in exploitation of marble stones from Dalbandin and other areas of Balochistan.

This attack was a warning to the owners and contractors of these companies. If the plundering of Baloch resources is not stopped then our future attacks will be of much higher intensity. These companies will be responsible for loss of any life.

Pakistani propagandists are sharing fake statements using the name of Baloch Liberation Army for last few months to create confusion amongst the public. We want to clarify that BLA only releases its statements, publications and multimedia content through its official Telegram channel Hakkal. Any BLA statement can be verified through our official channel or any reliable media organisation.

Isolated posts. Non-commissioned men deployed without any officer leading them and on their own without any support. The only advantage is height and long distance field of view. But nobody can be 100% alert all the time. This is visible even to amateurs like me.

What is more surprising though, is that Pakistan is not doing anything to change this situation. What measures have they taken? Baloch insurgents can execute these attacks in perpetuity.

On the flip side, the balochis can keep over running these posts and kill enlisted men for years - but in the grander scheme of things it makes 0 difference. The Pakistani Army, and the civil elite do not really care as there is a non-stop supply of men to join FC anyways.

The Baloch insurgency can hardly be expected to be strong enough to win them independence. Nobody expects them to do so . Moreover even if they get close to achieving their objectives vis a vis Pakistan which is an impossibility as on date , you can bet that Iran would never let that happen given it directly impacts their border areas as well as the Sistan Balochistan province there .

The Baloch insurgency is meant to tie down significant forces & consequently material & monetary resources of the state indefinitely. Along with other insurgency groups operating in neighbouring provinces they serve the purpose of bleeding Pakistan dry. Death by a 1000 cuts if you will .

Add to that the residual effect it'd have on the Chinese investments there . While the Chinese wouldn't abandon their investments they'd certainly have second thoughts on the scale of it & dampen their enthusiasm.

Law of averages will always catch up . After all people join the armed forces for various reasons , chief among them is to earn a livelihood not to die like flies especially if there's no war going on - civil wars being a dirty business . Dying in the undertaking of duty is an occupational hazard.

However if the fatalities go up consistently , it'd definitely affect the intake of recruits qualitatively & quantitatively which the PA would seek to offset by luring potential recruits with a bigger pay package & perks which in turn brings me to the opening statement I've made in this post.

Without diverting and deploying atleast 100,000-150,000 Pakistan Army troops for extended period, Pakistan won't be able to defeat or significantly degrade the operational capabilities of Baloch fighters. The truth is Pakistan do no have the ability to divert such a force to Balochistan. Significant pakistan army forces are already tied down in Waziristan and TTP is on rise again.

Balochistan is many times larger than Waziristan and the entire terrine is mountainous. Before 2014, Baloch guerrillas were essentially unopposed in the rural mountainous region and they essentially created parallel government in those region, and recruited men. Pakistani state only existed in the cities. Pakistan first tried to wait it out hoping that insurgency will loose it's steam in few years and tried to crush it by cracking down on Baloch cheiftens. Pakistan realised that this strategy is not working and decided to try entering the rural regions.

Pakistani strategy was to limit the space for Baloch fighters by creating posts on mountain tops across Balochistan. This was a policy of desperation and it was the only option pakistan had. Since Pakistan Army do not have any troops to spare, they threw poorly trained, poorly equipped, poorly motivated and poorly led Balochistan FC to the meat grinder. This inturn worked straight into militant favour.

Any guerrilla movements objective is to force the enemy to disperse it's forces into isolated small groups and then attack them individually and bleed them. None of them have the capability to fight a concentrated conventional force. Since Balochistan is a big province, it once again worked in favour of the militants and FC forced to divide it's forces into very small units of 10-15 men and due to the vastness of Balochistan, they were seperated from each other by large distances. These posts are under attacks from Baloch fighters and they have local superiority in numbers in such engagements. Usually Baloch fighters outnumber defending FC troops 3:1 and easily overun those posts.

The morale of FC is very low and they rarely fight back when attacked. Usually they try to flee or get killed without firing a shot back. They have to resupply those posts through rural roads and they are constantly targeted with IEDs and ambushes. Pakistan is not doing anything in return because it doesn't have the capability to do anything in return. Unless they divert large force from Indo-Pak border, they do not have the ability to militarily defeat Baloch fighters.

This Baloch uprising is more successful than any previous uprisings. Baloch fighters managed to expel Pakistani state from large part of Balochistan for extended period. Even in the cities, security is non-existent and it's a no go zone for any non native personal. Economic growth is non existent and it is a money sink. Last baloch uprising of 1973 only lasted 4 years and was crushed. This one is 20 years and counting, and it is still strong.

Balochistan is bleeding pakistan with 1000 cuts and at this point, PA do not seem to have any strategy to turn the tide. The old policy of trying to wait it out also not working. With TTP on rise, any large scale operation against Baloch is not on cards anytime soon.

The easiest thing Pakistanis can do is to improve safety of their communication lines through tactics and training (road opening parties, how to escape ambushes) and better equipment (armored vehicles, mine protected vehicles) - the fact that they are unable to do it shows that there is no acknowledgement and introspection in their establishment.

Compare this to how we responded to naxal IED threat - even in the dark days of UPA - equipment, men and training was made available to CAPFs. Let's not even talk about how we defeated the jihad in J&K.
