British/Italian Tempest (GCAP) Fighter : News and Discussion

I'll be surprised if there's more than one aircraft developed.
And what will you do with 2 x 6th Gen FA, Paddy? Prepare to restart Empire 2.0 beginning with Paddlyland perhaps?

Frankly I doubt , going ahead whether UK would be able to live up to it's financial commitments to fund one single program leave alone 2 .

If labor Comes to power, What do you think will happen to GCAP/Tempest Project?
IMO, Japan is putting too much trust in UK.
Hopefully Sunak will keep them out. I've never known a good outcome with a Labour government. It was Labour who decided on STOVL carriers vs CATOBAR. Tories immediately tried to reverse it, but it was too late by then.

While Labor do have wrong policies, Keir starmer Sure knows What, When and How to speak to public better than Any Tory MP.
Hitler was a good public speaker too, so is Nicola Sturgeon, but everything she says is BS, she just says it in a convincing way.

Sunak seems to have got the NI/ROI border issue sorted in the UK's favour now though, so that's a big plus for him.

If this was UK 70 yrs ago Sunak would be returned to office . After all the "good Britons" then booted out the future invalid from office in spite of delivering UK from the greatest calamity ever to have befallen them since the Norman invasion , a development simply unthinkable for any leader winning a war anywhere.

They were prudent enough to vote out a war monger & vote in a progressive like Atlee who rewarded his electorate with many goodies the most notable being the now rickety almost on the verge of collapse - the NHS .

Having said that the "good Britons" may not have voted for Sunak in the first place given his race . However this is a different UK we're talking about . One that may & that's a BIG MAY not consider his race but being brought up on a steady diet of Paddyfication would make the most obvious choice - the worst one of the ones on offer . Of that you can be sure Paddy.

Mark my words - it's party in labour this year & 4 yrs of a ride further up shit creek .

The UK program was originally FOAS, it was a strike fighter program. The FCAS seems to be a continuation of the same.

So FCAS involves UK, Italy and Sweden, whereas GCAP involves UK, Italy and Japan.

I would still be surprised if the end result is two aircraft, but I may be surprised.

It would follow RAF's standard practice though.

So, while SCAF could be multirole plus carrier, GCAF and FCAS could be the hi-lo mix RAF wants, with GCAF with some extra oomph as a dedicated ASF.

There are serious air forces on the UK's side though. France may end up having to drag their partners through muck just to get somewhere. And Sweden's put their FCAS participation on a hiatus, so they are probably planning something else. That's 4 6th gen jets in Europe, not bad.
