India - French Covid-19 Solidarity Operation (26 April 2021)

At President Macron’s request, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs is in the midst of organizing an extraordinary solidarity operation in support of the Indian people, who have been hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Coordinated by the Ministry’s Crisis and Support Center and implemented by the French Embassy in India, the operation involves delivering the following by air and by sea, by the end of this week:
  • 8 oxygen generators manufactured by a French SME, each of which can provide an Indian hospital with oxygen autonomy for a dozen years. These units are permanent fixtures that can produce medical oxygen from the oxygen present in the air. Each one can continuously supply a 250-bed hospital. The system’s flow rate is sufficient for 15 intubated Covid patients in a resuscitation care unit (or 30 patients in conventional intensive care) or 150 patients requiring oxygen in a conventional hospital setting. Also included are devices to refill oxygen cylinders.
  • containers of liquid oxygen, including 5 delivered during an initial phase, to supply medical oxygen to up to 10,000 patients a day.
  • specialized medical equipment including 28 respirators and the disposable materials that go with them, as well as 200 electric syringe pumps.
In response to needs expressed by Indian officials, this equipment is designed to respond to the emergency but also to significantly boost the capacity of Indian hospitals over the long term to treat patients and fight the pandemic.
French support includes contributions from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Ministry for Solidarity and Health, and the following major companies: Air Liquide, BNP Paribas, Capgemini, CMA CGM, Dassault Aviation, EDF, Orano, Sanofi, Safran as well as ATOS, Renault, Airbus, L’Oréal, Naval Group, Société Générale, Alstom, Total, ADP, Roquette, Servier, Thales, Schneider Electric, Crédit Agricole, Michelin, ARaymond, Air France, Legrand, EMBALL’ISO, Phosphea, NRB Bearings, Dassault Systèmes, Armor Group, Link and Precia Molen, with support from the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI).
It also falls within the framework of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).
France and India have always stood together in solidarity at difficult times. This solidarity lies at the heart of our strategic partnership and the friendship between the French and Indian people.

Foreign aid arrives in India, but when will it reach rural areas?

Ventilators, oxygen equipment, pharmaceuticals and PPE shipments have begun to arrive in India as part of a global effort to help contain a devastating surge of Covid-19. But experts have warned the full extent of the crisis is far worse than reported, and say distributing aid to stricken rural areas will be a further challenge.

India's hospitals have been overwhelmed by the second wave of coronavirus, with daily infections surpassing 300,000 for over a week and 2,000 deaths registered per day.

The total number of cases has soared to 17.6 million cases, with India now accounting for well over a third of all confirmed Covid-19 cases in the world.
Experts fear that the staggering figures fail to capture the true magnitude of the crisis, especially in rural areas where testing is limited.

Aid to rural areas

“Because death registration is poor in India, the government will have little data to respond to the impact of Covid-19 on large sections of the population who live in the rural areas,” Jacob John, a renowned virologist told RFI.

he spiralling cases have put tremendous pressure on the country’s overstretched health infrastructure which continues to face chronic shortage of oxygen, medicines and beds in their intensive care wards.

“It is good to know that at least these supplies have started trickling in from abroad. But the real issue will be to see that cities suffering serious shortages get their right allocations,” Dr Ajay Khanna, a physician told RFI.

“The upsetting scenes of patients dying in ambulances and bodies burning on pyres outside crematoriums in many towns shows how grave the situation is and the surge is nowhere near ending,” Pranav Kishore, a public health expert told RFI.

Vaccine stocks

According to experts, the only hope for smothering the current wave is to ramp up the vaccination drive. The country is administering about 3 million doses a day which has been sluggish by many estimates.

So far, India has vaccinated 8 percent of its 1.3 billion plus population with one dose and 1 percent with two.

On 1 May, vaccinations are scheduled to be opened up to everyone above 18 years and several states have complained they do not have enough stock.

Foreign aid

Crates of ventilators and oxygen concentrators from the UK arrived at an airport New Delhi on Tuesday. A day earlier, an Indian Air Force aircraft transported six cryogenic oxygen containers from Dubai.

France has begun sending oxygen generators destined to become long-term fixtures of hospitals in India.

A consignment of containers for the transportation of medical oxygen has arrived from Thailand while some more empty tankers will be airlifted from Singapore.

The US is also sending raw material for Covishield - the AstraZeneca vaccine being made in India - that had been hitherto banned by the US Trade authorities.

Asymptomatic is a relative term. I know in my family a person who suddenly fainted because he was running happy hypoxia. My parents keep a tab on their oxygen saturation because of this. Disease and its variants are unusual. Besides, asymptomatic disease means wider spread. Each person is now a super-spreader unwittingly.

"We" certainly are.

I knew I will happen one day or another.
People voted for a conman who came riding “India against corruption” movement and right now is having most current government. He has done Waste Bengalisation of the Delhi and now Delhites are ready to reap the benefits.

All hail Mohalla Clinics and Laughing classes.

And yes , don’t forget to spend huge on advertising his Scum Face on every nuke and corner.

US restricts vaccine raw materials to India but depends on rare ingredient from Mumbai firm

Mumbai headquartered pharma and nutraceutical specialty ingredient maker VAV Lifesciences and its subsidiary VAV Lipids is going to supply highly purified 'synthetic phospholipids' required for vaccine manufacturing in US

Both Pfizer and Moderna mRNA Vaccines are dependent on Raw Material supplied by VAV Life science Mumbai....😊

So may Ajit Doval may have caught Americans by their BALLS ...
You thinks and talk lot like those Bakees

Its a massive failure of planning all over the place.

There was no effort to foresee what we will require to produce vaccines. No task-force to work with vaccine producers who are in INDIA itself.
There was no effort to fix oxygen situation across India. We knew that issue since Gorakhpur tragedy. Tenders were floated in October ONLY when disaster of Sept 2020 struck. Deplorable.

Health system is like this since I first entered in this system a decade ago.

Voters look for Religion, caste and party of Candidates much more than what he/she promises to do to improve the local hospital or CHC or PHC.

The situation is a complete *censored* up no doubt. And central govt is equally responsible.
But Delhi is at whole new level
