For such defensive weapons , or ingeneral weapon systems we will never be told actual figures, always a conservative level is maintained. Else your enemy will target each gap they can find.

Jane's don't normally put out data which is suspect. They've a long & rich legacy to live upto unlike our "defense reporters. " After all it's their bread & butter. Besides they earn quite a lot thru their intelligence briefings on weapons systems around the world apart from consultancy. Errors of commission or omission cost them a lot in terms of reputation.

Hence, if Jane's claiming 14 kms engagement ceiling then it's there or thereabouts. Check with PKS & don't forget to mention Jane's as well as what other sources are claiming & see what his response is like.

QR-SAM is supposed to replace OSA AK units in Army. Now apart from foreign new import options like Spyder/Tor etc, Russians did offer to upgrade the legacy OSA AK systems to latest standards.

1. The newest OSA AKM missiles can travel much higher, more than 10+km in altitude. DRDO needs to do better than that.

2. And secondly high altitude deployment will also be done along the LAC.

Considering these two points the real altitude will surely be atleast 8-10km depending upon the target. I am not denying that.

I am just saying that the official word is 6km throughout. And any BEL employee is unlikely to say anything else. Therefore I suspect that Jane's may have had made a mistake.

But then Jane's has a very decent history, much higer than likes of SIPRI even. Let's see.

Wait for an official word. Or atleast 1 more source which doesn't derive Jane's as a source.

If 14 km they quoting is true, its highly likely to be true because 1)its from Jane 2)It roughly equivalent to the perfomance of Muk M SAM we operating.
Probably it will replace Buk M in near future.

I am having doubts because we saw reports of more trials this year for some modifications.

First is Jane source is BEL, so likely the electronics FCS radar part. BDL I think will handle the missile part & lead integrator, I have to check BEL call, not had time due to aero show this week.
Also even if 5 regiment worth are inducted the dev+user trial will continue based on user feedback, till its certified by chemilac.

No I am asking, see the bottom part of the pic, ROTM with red lines max 8km with LOS part. Want to know if that spec is what army would look to improve.
