Shouldn't they be looking for more Rafales instead of Typhoons? Or do they assess Typhoon to be a better air-to-air fighter than Rafale, hence looking to buy the former?
I had read that the Qatari typhoons with the mk0 radar outperformed the rafales in air to air with the f-15QA being the worst in bvr out of the three. The report was on twitter so remain unreliable. Let's see if the rbe2xg comes first or the ecrs mk2.

They had initially ordered 24 and now increased it by 12 for 2 full squadrons. They followed the same process for Rafale.

Should be obvious in terms of detection range. The radar is newer than RBE2 AESA and is bigger and more powerful. Plus capable of repositioning, huge advantage. The F-15 may not have faced a radar issue though, rather big RCS and poor aerial performance.

Otoh, PAF's J-10C have exercised with the Typhoon in Qatar, so that's good experience for them. It's possible that their GaN radar equalized or outperformed the Typhoon's radar. And yes, the Chinese have been operating GaN radars on their fighter jets for almost a decade now, and by extension PAF in the last 2 years. Everybody else has been slow to the party.
