GTRE Kaveri Engine

When I claimed this last year, plenty of guys made fun of me as you can read by clicking the quotes of my comment here: ADA AMCA - Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft

But now just few days back GTRE has put out an EOI for a locally manufactured 110-120KN jet engine with full domestic players: India advances indigenous jet engine effort, seeks industry partner.

So folks, looks like another prediction by yours truly is about to come true;) @South block, @Sathya, @marich01, @YoungWolf, @Ironhide, @spice, @batman, @_Anonymous_, @randomradio, @vstol Jockey, @Gautam, @Ankit Kumar, @redpanda, @Speedster1, @Shan,@Parthu, @Asterion Moloc, @Lolwa, @RationalGuy et al

Strange kind of prediction. We had official documents of the same posted on this thread since 2021. Read post #799 & #800 on this thread.

Didn't read the complete article, did you? And started jumping and trying to claim victory for an outlandish claim not based on reality.

"Although the EOI has been framed as a platform-agnostic programme, defence sources said the high-thrust engine under development is being viewed primarily in the context of the country’s indigenously developed fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme.

While the initial AMCA aircraft are expected to be powered by the GE F414 engine, the Indian Air Force and the government are seeking an indigenously developed high-thrust engine for subsequent phase of AMCA induction, including the planned AMCA Mk-2 variant. Sources added that the engine could also be adapted for the Tejas Mk-2, including for potential mid-life upgrade configurations.

The EOI further notes that GTRE is pursuing the programme “in collaboration with an International Engine House (IEH)”, without naming the partner. Safran is reportedly in advanced discussions with India on aero-engine cooperation, including technology transfer and co-development, while Rolls-Royce is also understood to be in contention
".

They're not talking about a new high thrust engine engine separate from the JV engine for AMCA MK2. It's the same one. If anything, this new EoI is to identify small and big companies to form a consortium who'd be involved in the manufacturing of every major and minor component the engine, from prototyping to production stage.

TL;DR: There's no separate high thrust engine production in parallel to the JV one for AMCA.

Except this isn't indigenous. Go through the entire article . Towards the end the proposed collaboration with a Foreign Engine House , most likely SAFRAN for this very project is clearly mentioned.

It's lazy journalism at best or click bait journalism at worst.

Looks like at the end it turned out to be the same JV engine programme, we all know about.

It's just the JV with safran. Why would a nation run parallel development doing the same thing?

There are many parallel developments happening in-terms of high-thrust jet engine. We just can't let go of all the learnings of Kaveri into nothing plus there is a deliberate effort on part of GOI to rope in private sector players in jet engine manufacturing as trust is less in PSUs. All these stuff will come to light in due time. Actually, having an all indigenous go towards 110+KN engine with both desi PSU plus Private sector collaborating makes perfect sense at least as a fallback option.

@ShiroBarks your thoughts on what I wrote above;)

Two different things. No one is saying there is no parallel development. These labs have their own budget to run it.

The point was about this specific tender. Which is for Safran JV not some standalone development as you said.

Like you said, the tender indeed shows show DRDO and Govt want to move away from HAL as the sole engine producer. This move should be read parallel to AMCA tender.

Sometimes I wonder when will we get rid of these retards masquerading as defence journalists. Even Hydrocele here would do a better job & I'm being complimentary to the journalists here . They're actually worse than that.

It's pathetic to listen to the same old questions - what's the status of the Kaveri Engine development ? elicit the same old tired answers - Kaveri Engine has failed to deliver the required thrust though it did generate 72 KN of wet thrust and so on ...

I've been listening to this repetition for the past 2 years. Makes my blood boil. Why can't these damned journalists ask DRDO or GTRE - apart from the KDE & the proposed 120 KN TF what else has the GTRE planned ? Are the lessons of Kaveri ever going to be utilised to develop an analogue to the GE F-404 ? Or will we be refitting the Mk-1a with the same GE F-404 in their MLU ?

Alternatively I really don't know why can't DRDO officials depart from the script to provide some new details instead of day before yesterday's news ?

These goddamned journalists could also ask - what's happening to the AFB which is being assembled by Brahmos Aerospace Pvt Ltd ( BAPL ) ? If the KED will find usage on the upcoming UCAV , why's it the AFB is being assembled ? What's the user case for it ?

@ShiroBarks has come up with a splendid thread on the achievements of GTRE & various other labs of DRDO apart from HAL on TF technology over the years.

Do give it a read.

How can they test Kaveri in SE fighter Tejas ?

May be integration process and ground test only? Parallel to flight test somewhere else ?

These are the sort of questions that dolt of a journalist should've asked Dr Kamat . Instead he wasted his time & 2 minutes of my life on that lousy clip .

To make matters even more depressing for you resident story teller is AWOL. Else he would've given you the lowdown & cheered you up .

I have always been on your side, you bring real valid points from the pov of someone who hasnt been brainwashed by american or chinese propoganda, looking forward to more of your takes but I am not sure about this project but do hope it turns out true like you say.
