The question is how quickly can HLFT be done? And will it remain a HAL internal project ? Or other agencies will pitch in ?LCA Trainer and SPORT are too over-spec'd for the LIFT role.

Why does it have to be quick? If that was possible where is HJT-36 ?The question is how quickly can HLFT be done? And will it remain a HAL internal project ? Or other agencies will pitch in ?

Frankly I don't see the point of a Mk-2 . What exactly is HAL aiming for ? A low cost , VFM LIFT or an LCA . We already have an LCA . The idea behind the HLFT was to cut down on costs due to the sophistication of the LCA . This Mk-2 totally defeats the original mission aims .1. Fly By Wire
2. AESA + IRST
3. EW
4. 9 Hardpoints
Only thing remaining is possible engine.
Before I thought that it would be lighter therefore a 73kN Kaveri could work. But these many features, it has to be GE 404 now.
And it's gonna be a proper fighter jet it seems.
For the time being, this is all on paper, and we should wait to hear from HAL about the project's development and timeline.Frankly I don't see the point of a Mk-2 . What exactly is HAL aiming for ?
