The question is how quickly can HLFT be done? And will it remain a HAL internal project ? Or other agencies will pitch in ?

It will take up to 6 years to see it in the LSP stage. Consider this program for a next decade delivery.
No clue about the process. Getting private players in is becoming a fad, although HAL does like to do things on its own.

Before I thought that it would be lighter therefore a 73kN Kaveri could work. But these many features, it has to be GE 404 now.
And it's gonna be a proper fighter jet it seems.

Frankly I don't see the point of a Mk-2 . What exactly is HAL aiming for ? A low cost , VFM LIFT or an LCA . We already have an LCA . The idea behind the HLFT was to cut down on costs due to the sophistication of the LCA . This Mk-2 totally defeats the original mission aims .
For the time being, this is all on paper, and we should wait to hear from HAL about the project's development and timeline.

Hmm...Marut itself means Vayu: The Wind God. Lord Hanuman, as we all know, is son of Marut/Vayu so known as Maruti/Pawan Putra. Now HLTF-42 portrays Lord Hanuman in its vertical tail. The silent meaning is obvious.
