R-77 out ranges AIM120-5C and R-77 has two different versions with RF & IR seeker. Russian philosophy is to fire two missiles on a target to confuse the onboard jammers. Su-30MKI can carry 8 of them with another 4 R-73s. This missile can be fired in lofted trajectory from medium altitudes to increase its range by about 33% or over 160kms.
