Budgam: Indian missile fired before Mi17 V5 chopper crash

The final moments preceding the crash, including if the IFF (Identity, Friend or Foe) systems were switched on or not, are being carefully looked at to determine what went wrong. The air force brass, highly placed sources told ET, has made it clear that it would not shy away from initiating court martial proceedings against personnel if they are found blameworthy in the inquiry. ET has learnt that the focus of the investigation now is to determine if multiple layers of safeguards meant to protect assets from friendly fire failed and how systems need to be improved to prevent any such incident in the future.

Sources said that the missile – believed to be of Israeli origin – was activated after an air defence alert was sounded over Jammu and Kashmir, besides other parts of the border, after a over 25 Pakistani air force jets were detected along the border on the morning of February 27. The alert, sources said, indicated that Pakistani jets may be trying to breach the border for a strike on Indian military targets and there were concerns that armed UAVs available with that country may also have been deployed. A slow moving target like the Mi 17 V 5 helicopter could potentially be mistaken for a low flying armed UAV homing into an air base, according to these sources. “When an air defence alert is sounded, several things take place. There are a set of rules that transport aircraft and helicopters need to follow and there are set entry and egress routes demarcated for aircraft flying. Also, aircraft are to switch on their IFF (Identify, Friend or Foe) systems,” sources told ET. They added that all angles are being probed to determine if lapses took place and where.

A senior officer is conducting the court of inquiry into the crash and has been given access to all inputs available with ground controllers as well as the actions of the helicopter in the ten minutes that it was in the air. As reported by ET, the chopper crashed in the 10-minute span when IAF jets were engaged in an aerial battle with the Pakistan Air Force fighters, along the Line of Control in the Nowshera sector, and air defence systems were on operational alert. Command and control systems were under immense pressure as reports of attempted intrusions were sounded along the border. Mi17V5 is one of the sturdiest choppers in service across the world and is not usually prone to technical faults of catastrophic nature. Eyewitness reported that a loud explosion was heard in the air before the chopper crashed in a trail of smoke, indicating a possible catastrophic external event contributed to the incident.

Black box of Mi-17 chopper that crashed in Srinagar missing

"The black box has gone missing after the crash and we are trying to locate it. It is possible that it has been taken away by the hostile locals, who have taken away many other parts as well," sources in the Air Forcesaid.

BJP won in 1998 and 1999 elections

The Law says that once LoK sabha is dissolved , hold elections in Six months

Therefore elections were held in September October

Sorry my bad. Yes BJP won technically. But I consider the win/loses between 1996-1998 as not worth consideration since they were both fragile, both ruling and opposition. As far as I'm concerned BJP only had a single term's time effectively to do anything for country. Other things were lost in conflicts and fighting congress.

It's sad that India's own missiles hit own military helicopter and killed own soldiers.
This matter should be put under microscope and those responsible should be punished.

That they will. Unlike the F-16 brought down by your own fire or the pilot clobbered by your own citizens. Or Musharraf who led you into Kargil and to quote Air Marshal Abid Rao ( weird surname for a Turco / Afghan / Persian / Arab descendant) who ominously foretold of either a court martial or martial law, eventually becoming President.

Damn! If it takes the sacrifices of a few thousands of ones armed forces to seize power & become President, which Pakistani officer wouldn't, especially if the sacrifices are primarily made by Gilgitis & Baltistanis, most of whom are Shia anyway, your favorite sect in Islam.

A full month after Indian Air Force’s strike on Jaish-e-Mohammed’s terror base in Balakot, Pakistan authorities have finally taken journalists for a tour of the site, Indian Express has reported.

The journalists were taken on the tour on Thursday (29 March) and they proceeded to capture videos of the site. The report claimed that currently 300 students are present at the site which purportedly operated under the guise of a Madrasa. The zone is said to be protected by the frontier army of the Pakistani paramilitary force.

This guided tour by Pakistani authorities a month after the air strikes led many social media users to question whether the repair work at the site was finally complete.

The Indian Air Force had conducted the Balakot air strikes in the early hours of 26 February, in which around 200 to 300 terrorists are reported to have perished.

India can keep doing the bombing jobs in future and Pakistan have demonstrated high level of efficiency in clean up. Now the Saboot gang will say that nothing happened by pointing to the videos taken by the journos

Sir all this have some substance or just social media feel good stories? Artillery fire is not on focus anymore and Pakistani officials and public is relatively relaxed but on Social media it feels like mutiny in PA, nukes already snatched and at least 2 provincies are already independent!

Is it psyops overdrive or something strong is going on too in background.

No Clue.

But operations are still on going.
