This is not an AWACS/AEW plane. The purpose of an AEW is for the most part to generate a situation picture of the airspace out to a long range, and assisting the Air Force in securing and managing that airspace with their L/S-band long-wavelength radars. The DRDO-made Netra AEW radar can scan targets at over 475 km in extended range mode. Logical to assume the Phalcon can see farther.

The purpose of an ISTAR aircraft such as the Sentinel, on the other hand, is mostly collecting ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) of ground targets, movement of troops or locations & elevation models of stationary buildings or natural formations like mountains etc. ISTAR planes (including the Sentinel and ARC's Global 5000s) are generally equipped with Synthetic Aperture Radars (SAR), and the data they collect is of a different nature -

This is not to say AEWs cannot look at ground targets or that ISTAR planes cannot scan the sky, but to say that its not their intended role.

What do you mean “deliberately” ? They won because they are L1, meaning least expensive for the tax payer. Everything should be tendered if possible for best results.
We should be thankful that private industry is taking such risks and giving healthy competition to DPSUs.
They are just rebranding Israeli maal if cost is always taken in factor then many indigenous systems will never get orders.
Foreign systems enjoy economies of scale.
Drdo is already developing indigenous istar they should be given full commitment.
Moreover adani is just exploiting the loop holes of iddm criteria .
No its not. They are integrator for the DRDO programs in the case of AWACS. You and mixing and confusing things, G550 based one is imported, Netra is not.
In recent, BEL investor call they mentioned that they lost to adani for Netra program.
For ISTAR, there is no AoN yet.
Adani is the dcpp in netra mk2 program whereas for istar & 360° awac program you can clearly see they are pushing Israeli products.
Another surprising thing is iaf deliberately released open tender for both these programs so that foreign companies can also participate.
Now drdo systems will have compete with rebadged foreign system & we all know who will be the L1.
