Defence Ministry engages with private players to manufacture military items
Seek response on building simulators for Apache, Chinook helicopters, communication systems, among others
The Indian Air Force Wednesday reached out to the domestic defence industry seeking their response on manufacturing eight military items,
including simulators for Apache and Chinook helicopters, and communication systems.
three projects of the army, an Indian light tank, an autonomous combat vehicle, and integrated surveillance and targeting system for mechanised forces,
Other projects of the IAF Airborne Electro-Optical pod with Ground-Based System, Wearable Robotic Equipment for Aircraft Maintenance, Airborne Stand-off Jammer and Design & Development of Automatic Take-Off/Landing Recording System (ATORS).
Two RFIs of IAF
1. Long Range Guidance Kit for 250 Kg Bomb. Range to be over 60km. Initial quantity 560 units. An additional order of 1000 units can be placed in future. Compatible with Mig29K, Mirage 2000, Rafale and LCA. [Depends on the vendor to either choose glide method or solid booster method to increase the range , also depends on vendor to choose between satellite, IIR or laser Guidance]
2. LONG RANGE SATELLITE NAVIGATION SYSTEM GUIDED MISSILE
(LRSGM)
It will be a long range Air to Ground Supersonic weapon.
Quantity : 250 Missiles.
Minimum Range : 220 Kilometres.
Missile should be able to attack from 70 degrees, meaning top attack capability needed. RFI closes on 20 June 2022.

1)Because DRDO is working on numerous air droped platforms, they will definitely come up with some blue print and sabotage this as what happened athos, spike/Javeline, igla deals.
2)The missile procurement, again it will not materialize when we have Brahmos NG program is active in paper.
Yes an it's interesting that the upcoming RafaleM/Super Hornet , whichever gets in , it too is supposed to use it.
In the RFI , words like High Supersonic/Hypersonic have been used. So I feel this one would be different.
How its even possible? Meteor is an aam & RFI is for air to surface missile.
There are studies to use a modified version of the METEOR as an air-to-ground anti radar missile.
I don't know, it depends on the explosive load and if you add a booster for example.
Hope for 1) IAF gets ARDE kits or JSR dynamics kits and for 2) Rudram series + Brahmos NG.
What is the point of Releasing these RFI s if DRDO is working on such projects
Do they expect Indian Private companies to develop such high
Technology items without Govt funding
May be Some Pvt companies & PSUs are working on it. Like JSR Dynamics showcased its guidance kits and cruise missiles some time ago. I think they were collaborating with BEL & some UK based company. DRDO may have given TOT to some private company or PSU for its guidance kits. I also remember to read somewhere a JV of an Indian Pvt company with a french company for manufacturing of guidance kits.
Besides, Brahmos is a prvt company and it is developing Brahmos NG a high supersonic missile with range of about 300km
