Indian Aircraft Crash Notification

As i said earlier, IAF will phaseout Mig21 from service with the crash of last surviving mig21 flying with IAF. Thanks to GOI for the priorities.

In 2012, then defence minister A K Antony informed Parliament that out of 872 MiG aircraft purchased from Russia more than half were lost in crashes. In the last 60 years, more than 200 pilots and 60 civilians lost life in these crashes. So by 2012 400 plus of that fighter jet never got the chance to get retired . Then there is more to add after 2012 . I wonder what ll be cost of man and materials . Crores are invested in maintaining these machines and training the pilots .

Should also explain the reason the former SU went in for the kind of quantities they did . Apart from a vast land mass & "Quantity " being a "Quality" of its own , it also conformed to their training philosophy. No surprises China's following the same philosophy whereas Russians are struggling with it for years due to economic issues

I'm with the @Ankit Kumar line of thinking here . Never use a piece of Russian equipment for more time than the Russians themselves use it especially if we follow a doctrine of extensive training NATO style on Russian equipment built as they are for a limited lifespan with extensive maintenance , the philosophy being low CAPEX & medium to high OPEX , the very opposite of western philosophy for their defence equipment.

Chini numbers made by a chini guy. There is no open source numbers to compare with PLAAF.

Some numbers like Mig and mirage are so wrong its better not to comment. Looks like he missed 100+ imported Migs from the total count.

One obvious variable missing here is the total hours and years that the type of aircraft used. Mig-21 served 55+ years in various types. Canada lost 5% of F-104 in something like 25 years. Useless charts for the most parts.

What are you talking about? You can look at the Twitter blogger I quoted. He is an Indian who just watches the PLA
He's not comparing the PLA, he's comparing India and other so-called democracies,
You're fooling yourself

Nope Chinese handle. He makes basic mistakes which a normal indian watcher will never do on other threads.

How do you not recognize the red flag of the party? Look for Su-30MKK.

High Indian attrition rates compared to PLAAN are due to the fact that the Chinese do not publish crash reports like other open nations

These numbers are not directly comparable without additional information on usage. For example, ROC inducted the Mirage 2000 in 1997, and we have been using the Mirage since 1985. That's a 12-year difference.

There is no way to make a 100% rigorous comparison using public information, but you can draw conclusions from a rough comparison, For example, a more reasonable comparison between India and France, or a comparison of the accident rates of Mirage 2000 in Taiwan and India after 1997

French operated 5 times more mirages and they are the OEM. Large numbers help. In 272 MKIs operated only 12 crashes.
