So its true, not a man portable system. Logically speaking, probability of intercepting the target will be higher than igla type system.

Actually the newer Igla S imported in small numbers, need a 2 man crew. Its ready to fire weight is like 18-20 kgs.

We have similar numbers weight wise (ready to fire) for systems like Starstreak , slightly more for Mistral , and the Korean ones being 24+ kg.

So if we are able to keep the weight similar to these contemporary systems, 2 man crew should be able to handle it.

And given the heavier systems like Mistral and Starstreak and RBS70 are actually having more better accuracy, if we achieve something similar with a 2 man crew, I personally don't think we should complain.

It seems to carry substantial more fuel as also have a large enough guidance and warhead section. It's supposed to be a dual-thrust solid propellant rocket engine. The aft section will burn faster and provide it with adequate thrust to reach a high speed. The next section will burn slower, providing it acceleration but also much greater range. It's also supposed to have a Miniaturised reaction control system to aid maneuverability.

So its true, not a man portable system. Logically speaking, probability of intercepting the target will be higher than igla type system.
I knew it. We are simulatenously developing an igla/stinger equivalent and a rbs-7ng/mistral equivalent. The only question is why hasn't the mpdms not been tested yet. This is clearly meant for heavier class an most likely will have a range of 10km when it's ready.

Whenever talking about airdefence, don't think about the range. Think about the altitude.

Most of the modern MALE UCAVs have max operational altitude of 5.5-6km. And 4.5-5 km when carrying a payload.

Why fire a rejuvenated S125, when you can take out a Wingloong with a MANPAD ?

might be unrelated as other tests go on, but one fisherman died & 1 injured from shrapnel yesterday

A fisherman was killed after getting hit by a stray shrapnel in the testing range of Defence Research and Development Organisation in Balasore’s Chandipur on Wednesday. One other fisherman was reported to be injured in the same event.

The deceased has been identified as Kamalakanta Majhi, the owner of the boat.

As per reports, seven fishermen went into the sea near Chandipur to catch fish. However, after some time, the boat strayed into the prohibited area of the DRDO testing range where the defence organization was conducting an ammunition test. Majhi and his associate were hit by shrapnel and were rushed to the Balasore DHH where the doctors declared Majhi dead.

His associate is currently under treatment at the hospital. Other five fishermen in the boat are said to be safe.

Panchanan Majhi, a local fisherman, said, “They were fishing in the sea when a loud explosion was heard nearby. He was hit by a shrapnel on his chest and bled to death. Another person was also hit, but he managed to survive.”

No comments could be obtained from DRDO officials in this connection.

Prayers.

The coast guard and Sagar prahari of Navy needs to be more alert.

The active notam area was pretty big compared to vshorad range, maybe some other test also went on. Also likely it hit aerial target, such tests are done without warhead. Very unfortunate incident.

The DAC also accorded AoN for procurement of VSHORAD (IR Homing) missile system under design and development by DRDO. In view of the recent developments along the Northern borders there is a need to focus on effective Air Defence (AD) weapon systems which are man portable and can be deployed quickly in rugged terrain and maritime domain. Procurement of VSHORAD, as a robust and quickly deployable system, will strengthen the Air Defence capabilities.

Compared to Igla-S , why vshorads speed is kept relatively low? high maneuvering ability for better interception probability?
