BDL is reportedly working on a next-generation mobile air defence system featuring indigenous missile technology, electronic warfare integration and advanced radar capabilities. Indigenous development remains a priority under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, though it will take time to reach operational deployment.

What's next?

The Indian Army is currently weighing which system best meets its operational needs. Senior Indian Army sources indicate that a dual-track approach is likely—acquiring a proven global system for immediate requirements while continuing indigenous development for the long term.
 
1. L70 and ZSU23 replaced by 220 AA guns initially (Two contenders - L&T and BF most likely). Further 938 guns will also be procured in the future.
2. Osa-AK and Strela will be replaced by QRSAM
3. Schilka and Tunguska will be replaced by 103 ADGMS-SP

This dual track approach needs to be adopted for most programs in India right now. Have a proven foreign counterpart license produce/ screwdrivergiri it. Simultaneously built an Indian version and take user inputs from using the foreign counterpart and making changes in the Indian design.
