challenge 5 is interesting & also useful for civilian domain. When you shut off your car engine and try to use one of the 12 volt sockets (not the one which is always on) for any other purpose say charging phone or keep your dash cam running is not possible unless there is another separate power source other than battery. (other use is in cold weather ppl often need it for the seat or blanket).

Only other feasible soln I have found is having battery pack or ........electric cars like tesla($$ :-( ). A near practical soln would be to have hybrid systems (battery & fuel engine) where battery gets charged when main engine is running.

Indian startup Astrek Innovations is one of the winners of the "Swadeshi Microprocessor Challenge". They have developed a lower body exo-skeleton for the differently abled people. The exo-skeleton is powered by the C-DAC designed & SCL fabricated VEGA microprocessor. This is not a exo-skeleton meant for military use but some of it can be adopted for military use.

The use case for such exo-skeleton in the military is obvious. For example the number of personnel needed to load an artillery gun can be reduced & their ability to carry large weights can be drastically improved with exo-skeletons.

Private company developing 250-300 km ranged guided rockets for India

Nagpur: JSR Dynamics, the company founded by former vice chief of air staff Air Marshal (retd.) Shirish Deo, is at an advanced stage of developing a guided rocket of 324 mm caliber. On completion of the project, it is expected to be the first ever weapon system of this kind in India under the above-300 mm caliber category.

It is billed to outperform the existing arsenal of similar systems with the forces, and also counter the A300 type of rockets with the Pakistani army. Currently, the Indian defence forces have the Russian Smerch rocket under this category. Smerch has a caliber of 300 mm.
The 324 mm rocket of JSR has been designed to have a larger caliber and a longer range, said Deo. The Smerch rockets with India are unguided weapons, he said.

The JSR rocket on the other hand is expected to have a range of 250 to 300 km along with guided capacity, making it more precise on the target. The Smerch rocket has a range of around 100km. Deo says even with the advanced features there are plans to sell the rocket at a price lower than the current price of acquisition of other systems.

The design has been made and the guidance system would be ready soon. JSR is in talks with a European company to provide highly specific impulse propellent. If it works out, some of the units may be sent for filling. The warhead would be made by JSR.

The propellent gives a push to the rocket, and explosion is created by the warhead.

The rocket is being independently developed by JSR using its own funds and is not against any request for proposal by the defence forces. On completion, the company plans to put it up before the army for evaluation. The company is open for exports to friendly countries too, he said.
Once ready, the rockets are expected to be a game changer for the forces. This would also be the first of its kind of weapon designed and made in India, said Deo.

Work is under way in both private sector and defence public sector undertakings (DPSUs) for making the guided Pinaka rockets. However, Pinaka is of 224 mm caliber, and a shorter range. The guided Pinaka rockets have range of 70km. As against this, the conventional Pinaka can be fired upto 40km.

JSR Dynamics was formed by Deo after he retired from service. The current investment stands at Rs 63 crore. “We believe in operating at rather low margins as profit is not the motive,” he said.

After the surface fired rockets, there are plans to make a variant which can be shot from fighter planes too.

To give people some context JSR Dynamics guys were working with BEL for developing some guided munitions. That project is still ongoing. To have the backing of an established defence player that spend 100s of millions of dollars a year on R&D is significant. These JSR guys are not to be taken lightly. NewSpace & JSR are 2 defence start ups that have recently got backing from serious defence players.


But now they are getting into artillery rockets. Interesting.

This artillery rocket will be the largest artillery rocket that we have ever developed. 324 mm in caliber with 250-300 km range is pretty good. Also it is guided and is supposed to be cheaper than the Pinaka ! That's doubtful, but lets see.

That European company is likely MBDA. MBDA has a ATGM manufacturing facility in Coimbatore. That factory can probably be used for manufacturing the propellant & rocket motors for this new 324 mm artillery round.

The guidance is designed in house. That will be a critical make or break tech for this rocket.

DRDO should be ashamed that since last 20 yrs they are dragging their asses on pinaka heck these morons couldn't even reverse engineer smerch.

So what is Prahar missile

And if JSR can make a 250 KM rocket , why cannot DRDO do so

The main question is Cost Effectiveness

SMERCH war head is 250 Kg

Israel Rampage is just 150 kg

If you have to target something so deep , at least the Warhead must be big enough for the Circular Error Probability

Therefore we have Prithvis and Pralays with a 1 Ton Warhead
