Indian Economy : News,Discussions & Updates

People are coming out, economic activities are picking up, India would be in much more better shape, almost negating pandemic effect if Virus was under control. Unfortunately its entering stage 3 at many places and I don't know if there will be any end to it nearby. US is constantly recording 20k+ cases per day, from months now, there is no respite. Their living conditions are more hygienic and population density is very low compared to India. It will rage on for months and months, economy will be in real trouble then, what we are seeing is beginning phase, it's yet to peak and decline.

Bro, Chinese are now copying designs too (along with Japanese and European designs) you can see these copies in third world LDC markets like Pakistan, African countries and Bangladesh. Even Bajaj boxer copies are selling like hot cakes in Nigeria and other African countries.
Very recently Bajaj came up with their own in these countries. Also entry of TVS , the arch rival of Bajaj is making things harder for Bajaj. With its range of Models in all segment and due to better build quality than Bajaj, TVS has captured a large chunk of market in very short time.
Recently both launched their 150 and 200 cc models to target Youth segment which until now were largely untapped because of high cost of Japanese brands.

Awesome.War is not only fought in Ladakh but in Africa as well. Nice to here that our automobile companies beat chinese in Africa. Now our electronics, mobile and consumer goods companies also need to kick chinese companies on their back.
I want Indian Auto giants Tata and M&M to up the game in international markets with introduction of some premium models like Mahindra Alturas and Tata Nexon and Harrier. They are almost there and only have to improve there build quality.
Mahindra is well ahead of Tata in global sales right now because of crap Tata used to make before Hexa and Tiago.
Have anyone noticed that Nexon Ev is the best selling EV Car 3 months in a row well ahead of MG ZS and Hyundai Kona

I remember, a long time back, quite a few models China had copied directly from Indian branded two wheelers, example Julsar from Pulsar. It seemed funny but they had full backing of state.

Gulser, now Lefaan is copying almost every model of Bajaj like RS200 and NS200, Dominar, Duke et all.
And I must admit that they make good copies with some mod. But crappy engine .

Nokia India says local products, services helped bring $1 bn in foreign exchange; ready for manufacturing expansion

NEW DELHI: Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia said that it is already aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision, having brought in $1 billion foreign exchange in last fiscal to India through its products and services meant for global markets. The company is also evaluating local manufacturing for both domestic and global markets.

“This is separate from India business. The earnings have come through exports from the factory, services export from GNOCs which support 125 customers, and our R&D centers that are creating software products. All put together it is $1 billion for India annually, basically creating value for exchequers,” Nokia senior vice president and Head of India, Sanjay Malik, told ET.

The company has created a strong ecosystem for start-ups and MSMEs for its R&D centers and local manufacturing.

“There are about 15 to 20 MSMEs which we are supporting through our factory. Not everything is getting imported in terms of components. Similarly in R&D Center, we have brought in about 30 startups and are supporting them,” Malik said. “We are not just creating products in India, but also create jobs and the entire ecosystem…we are giving back to the country and to the exchequer.”

Nokia is now ramping up 5G exports from the factory and is also evaluating optics and transport gear manufacturing, having invested Rs 600 crore towards the factory to date.

Nokia’s Chennai factory produced telecom gear worth Rs 3000 crore in last fiscal, half of which was meant for exports. It exports older-gen products and 5G products to mature markets like the US, Europe, and the Asia Pacific.

“For supporting expansion or exports from India, we will do whatever is required, provided quality and cost is available here…100% local sourcing for manufacturing is possible only when 100% of components are available. It has to be a step by step approach,” Malik said. “We welcome this Aatmanirbhar Bharat…we will be much more willing to support it.”

Speaking on the AGR issue in India’s telecom sector, Malik said that there was certainly stress but the focus has now come back on the business growth. “Telcos are focusing on core issues like business and how to meet consumer growth. We think the AGR issue will be resolved soon.”

The executive said that the deferred 5G auction has now given an opportunity to telecom operators to make their networks 5G ready, and develop specific local 5G use cases.

“With the data growth happening, telcos will use this to make 5G use cases for not just consumers but enterprises as well,” he said.

Nokia recently inked a multi-year deal valued at around $1 billion with Bharti Airtel to deploy around 300,000 radio units by 2022. The deal will allow the telco to significantly expand its 4G network aggressively and to lay the foundation for high-speed 5G technology.

Malik said that the company still sees business potential with cash-strapped telco Vodafone Idea. “We are deploying network for them and the expansion is happening on both dynamic spectrum refarming and massive Mimo front.”

If I were in the government I would allow the economic activity to go full steam and anounce in advance that there will be lockdown again for 2 to 3 weeks in one or two months(giving the exact date), this would allow both government and people to prepare and virus will be bought to a standstill.

SSP and DM Ayodhya managed the district so beautifully that it should have been followed by ever city in country and we maybe able to defeat the virus. They started home delivery of ration within 3-4 days of first lockdown, others governments and cities started it much later and that too for namesake.

Here they contacted the local shop owners, gave them permission and vehicles, gave every area the whatsapp number respectively, was so well managed that you won't need to go out unless you have the urge, in that case police will take care of you. They kept a part of economic activities running along with facilitating the households.

I feel gdp contraction is inevitable at this stage. When one quarter is negative other three will have to make up for that negative.

Let's assume last year we had 6% growth every quarter. Then if this year Q1 is -3% then for next three quarters we will have to add for the cumulative loss of 9% in addition to normal 6%.

India still needs to sort out the basic issues which remains a hurdle to her ambition of becoming a manufacturing hub.
It includes poor infra,
Red Tapism,
Vague taxation
and to some extent lack of skilled manpower.
Government should focus on these issues ASAP or we will miss once in a lifetime opportunity.
