Without a strong counter balance like India, they know China will soon start dictating terms to the rest in RCEP.There is danger that if the deadlock with Indian demand for freedom of labor moment persists, Asian states may go with the trade pact without India. If we are left out we will lose a key role in shaping future of Asian free trade system in the making.

India, as of now, has nothing to gain & everything to lose.
We already have FTA's with Thailand , Malaysia followed by ASEAN since more than a decade. Guess what? There's been zero movement on the services side.Given our huge skilled and English educated work force, its understandable that Asian countries have worries about allowing labor to be treated as non restricted service. I think we should not be stubborn about it at this moment and make sure we join the pan-Asian pact and then hopefully move forwzrd discussion to shape policy regarding free movement of labor.
