Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion

IDeX projects have assured order value if successful. JSR has over 300+ cr assured order from IAF if their jet powered REK is successful. Prototype development also is funded albeit very low amount.
I see. This prog seems to be different from the IDeX one though. This is not a REK for dumb bomb but a unitary JSOW class weapon.

Yes, IAF does provide their aircrafts for testing when needed based on availability. The REK kit for IDeX program will be a derived from this design. I highly doubt this glid bomb will enter service. It just does not have sufficient lethality. The test might just be to verify the base design and make it available for export.

IMO, it all depends on the cost factor. If they can offer it at a lower price than the combined cost of a drop bomb + REK, then why not? It would also save valuable time during wartime sorties. The way point navigation and accuracy seems to be impressive, but it still needs to be tested in different environments e.g., high winds, rainy conditions, high-altitude releases, and over the sea, where waypoint navigation may not always be reliable. Since it is build by the X-IAF guys, they already have their own evaluation process and testing criteria.
