Indian Police (Special Units): SWAT & QRTs

I know it's not special forces but still worth sharing.

Remember in the movie Gangajal ? How the SHO says why will dacoit loot Police guns? Thats a movie based on 90s.

Bihar Law enforcement still in 90s?
Not just Bihar. Your Police, leave rural areas. Police in top 100 cities of India are still very poorly equipped. In case of another Mumbai 26/11 by the time SWAT units will arrive damage would have been done. Even Europe is coming out of stupid notion of not equipping its Police and are not allowing Police to carry at least handguns with extra magazines. But India is still way behind.

A lot of mandate rests under the state government, which is not really a subject easily discussed. But a short term fix in form of regional NSG centers has been established. And almost all state police forces now have a small elite unit with modern arms. Bigger states got ATS and STF teams too. So not really that bad. And certainly better than Europe. Aviation asset is one issue.

The entire law enforcement is a joke in India though. It gets progressively worse the more smaller and poorer the cities get. We need to have atleast be close to the standards of China, SEA or even Eastern European police's in terms of equipment. Beyond Noida U.P police is a joke.

Police reforms. Sadly no one talks about it.

I know that. That needs to be discussed. Because at least you can start from your 100 major cities and equipping Police from there. From basic things as assault rifles and handguns to enough cars for patrolling and fuel for those cars and one big forensic lab in those cities.

The issue is the way policing happens. It's ancient. We need to start talking and hopefully work to replace it with a new updated law. The British era law was good for its time. Maybe good for just independent India too. But now, it needs a serious overhaul.

Once that is done we can then have talks about the way it works.
By far the most important issue in the country. For comparison the Chinese have a far larger internal security budget than external security.
If the local police and administration actually do their work, we will have only 10% of the ethenic/religious tensions in the country , than we currently have. Ofcourse hate will still be there, but it won't spill on the streets. Action will be fair and life and property saved.

Both Pakistan and India have British mindset still when it comes to Policing.
