Indian Political Discussion

Does Biplab Kumar Deb except ppl from mainland India to travel to Tripura to see replicas when the originals exist & are in decent shape or is this another money making racket? For a poor state like Tripura where revenues are scarce and resources even more so, aren't there other avenues where money expended in the right way yields decent RoI apart from generating employment too?

The only thing that generates a decent RoI and some employment in our part of the country is Natural gas. That's the only thing. Everything else is a waste of money. The only other thing that has some potential of money making is the inland waterways network being developed connecting Tripura through Bangladesh to the rest of India. That might open up some avenues for trade. We could also try mechanizing agriculture, but then that's difficult and Biplab is an bumbling moron. That will be asking too much of him.

The point is : Tripura was, is and probably will always be a drag on Central govt. budget. Well given our puny size, a very small drag, but a drag nonetheless. I got nothing on how to kick start something that turns into a money spinner for the state. Neither do our leaders. Sad state of affairs.

Welcome move. But it ought to be trifurcated. Braj, Avadh & Purvanchal. No need for a Bundelkhand Or Baghelkhand. Same goes for all states with a population above 100 million for a start. Like Maharashtra. Also cities with a population above 10 million need to be considered for statehood. Like Mumbai & possibly Calcutta & Madras.

That guy credible ?

why are courts getting involved in governance?
How is it courts concern if govt wants to provide freebies to anyone?
I believe somebody files a petition against the Delhi govt's move. Now the Delhi govt. is trying to defend itself in court.

I feel it's time legislature and parliament send a strict message to mylords and get their power back.
Its true. Judicial activism is quite the challenge in India. Both by people filing petitions and judges getting in to making laws.

That's trifurcation industry ;) they surfaces every now and then. Previously they use to divide it into 3 parts but that is old now so to spice things up they have now included Delhi and other states too so that news get more traction. I won't read too much into it, time pass news.

Court is not getting into governance, not in this case. They were adjudicating between Center and Delhi about who will pay for development of next Metro phase.

When Delhi Govt went to court to ask for more money from center for development of metro and they having limited resources court is well within its rights to ask when you don't have more to expand how are you providing free rides?

Also misuse of public funds comes directly under courts mandate to scrutinize it, you can go via PIL too. Legislature does not have absolute power and you may have also heard that overused term "checks and balances".

Sometimes Courts and Judges do go ultra vires just like our other institutions but it is corrected in appeal or review.

There is a whole "industry" for it ?? Wonder what they gain from it.

Govt department lack will to get back these stolen idols, because on many occasion they have played an active part in its smuggling from Indian soil. According to ASI there are an estimated 40,000 temples in TN and only 12,000 idols. You have to wonder what happened to the rest of them.
With active support of local politicians
