INS Tarkash at St Denis, Reunion Islands, France. The Indian Navy ship is on a three day visit.

INS Tarkash has been of at sea for more than 6 months now. She has traveled half-way around the world, visited at least half a dozen countries and is now on her way back home. The stated purpose of this is IN's participation in Russia's Navy day parade, which was in July. 3 months to go to St. Petersburg, 3 months to come back and remember she is doing this alone. There is no other IN ship with her on this journey.

I cannot help but think that by doing these voyages, the IN is basically preparing sailors for long range extended duration deployments. IN does have global reach, but doesn't have the persistence yet. That is after all the hallmark of a blue water navy.
