Jammu will now dominate UT of J&K after delimitation and grant of electoral and residency permits to all those who came in after 1912 in J&K. They were mostly Hindus and never accepted as population of J&K. Now they will make the difference and be counted.
I agreed initially but I think the argument to keep them together is more strategic and safe in the long term. The valley is radicalized and prone to violence, who will want to buy land and invest there? Jammu is more stable and with this ruling will develop and integrate with mainstream India. Keeping J+K together means an economically empowered Jammu will eventually dominate Kashmir. They will change the narrative of the region from separatism to economic development/progress.
It is also definitely about international optics, isolating the valley alone would invite screams of "open air prisons" and would only strengthen the separatist cause.

This will effectively kill khalistan cause forever internally if any which I doubt there is and externally with a few paid idiots in UK and Canada having an itch. I am excited about the whole thing.
